The verdict

This is one of the best jokes an HG line has ever pulled off, an oversized 1/144 that dares to sit next to your 1/100 shelf and mostly gets away with it.

It reuses the bones of the MSN-04 Sazabi but reworks the silhouette into something sleeker and more personal, and once it is built it genuinely reads as its own suit rather than a repaint. The funnel gimmick is simple but satisfying, and the display stand Bandai throws in is a real value add at this price point.

Best for: Gundam Build Fighters fans and Char's Counterattack collectors who want a Sazabi variant with real shelf scale

What it is

AC-01 Miss Sazabi is Aila Jyrkiainen's personal rebuild of the Sazabi from Char's Counterattack, reworked with China Kousaka's help into something lighter and more her own. Bandai's HG kit leans into that idea by making the model noticeably bigger than a standard 1/144, close in bulk to a small MG, so it does not feel diminished sitting near actual 1/100 kits. Molded color covers most of the pink and white scheme so the shape reads correctly right off the runners, and the funnels on the backpack give it the same all-range attack posing gimmick as the Qubeley Papillon. Snapping this one together feels like getting more suit than the box price suggests.

The catch

It is still an HG from 2014, so the finer surface detail and joint engineering do not match anything from Bandai's Gunpla Battle era Real Grade or Master Grade lines, and the single sticker sheet is doing real work on the trim colors rather than everything being molded in. The funnels look great mounted but do not add much dynamic posing beyond the display stand poses Bandai clearly designed the kit around. Because the frame is a Sazabi derivative pushed into a bigger footprint, some of the joints feel like they are working a little harder to hold the extra bulk than a kit built from scratch at that size would.

Who it's for

Buy this one if you love Char's Counterattack's Sazabi and want a version with a different story attached, or if you are collecting Gundam Build Fighters suits and want China's fingerprints on your shelf. It also makes a good pickup for anyone who wants an HG that punches above its scale bracket without paying MG prices. Skip it if you specifically want screen-accurate CCA Sazabi proportions, or if you are chasing the tightest possible engineering and would rather put the same budget toward a newer HG with a proper inner frame.

The build story

What the build is actually like, and the engineering worth knowing about.

Eight runners of mostly pre-colored plastic keep this a straightforward snap together build, nubs are placed where you would expect on an HG of this era and cleanup is quick work with a basic set of side cutters and a hobby knife.

The standout here is scale, not sophistication, the finished kit sits far closer to a small 1/100 than a typical 1/144, and the backpack funnels plus the bundled display stand give it a posing identity the plain Sazabi silhouette does not usually get in HG form.
