I like this kit more than I expected to going in.
It is the same solid HGBD AGE-II Magnum SV ver mold, just recast in pearlescent white and metallic blue plastic, and that recast alone does a lot of heavy lifting. The engineering underneath is the same design that let this suit go from armored Magnum form into a stripped-down Phoenix mode, and that gimmick still sells the kit better than any sticker sheet could. My one real complaint is that the FX-Plosion name promises more visual drama than the plastic actually delivers.
Best for: Build Divers fans and P-Bandai completionists who want the AGE-II Magnum in its showier pearl and metallic colors
What it is
This is a straight recolor of the 2018 HGBD Gundam AGE-II Magnum SV ver kit, reissued through Premium Bandai in November 2019 with the white parts cast in a pearlescent finish and the blue parts in a metallic sheen. It is Kyoya Kujo's suit from Gundam Build Divers, and the party piece is still the transformation: pop off the armor plating and Funnel F support units and you get a leaner Phoenix mode underneath. Building it feels like getting two kits in one box, and seeing the pearl plastic catch light on the shelf makes the reissue worth chasing down if you already like the base mold.
The catch
Reviewers who built the original SV ver flagged that panel lines are sparse because of the smooth armor design, so there is not much to pick out with a panel liner even if you want to. The waist is limited to a swivel once the transformation joints are factored in, and the added bulk from the armor and funnel mounts holds back the leg articulation compared to a plain HG. The FX Plosion name suggests some kind of burst or explosion effect, but there is no molded effect part included to represent it, just the recolored plastic itself, which some builders find like a bit of a letdown for a variant with that name.
Who it's for
Get this one if you already like the Build Divers aesthetic and want the AGE-II Magnum in a more premium color scheme than the standard release, or if the Phoenix mode transformation gimmick is what actually draws you to this suit. Skip it if you already own the standard HGBD SV ver and are only chasing the FX Plosion name expecting a dramatic new effect piece, because the core kit underneath is identical. New builders should also know this was a Premium Bandai exclusive, so it shows up used or through resellers rather than on standard retail shelves.
The build story
What the build is actually like, and the engineering worth knowing about.
The build follows the standard HGBD SV ver runners, so gate placement stays mostly out of sight and cleanup is quick even for a builder who is not being especially careful with nippers. Foil stickers handle the markings and there are almost no color-correction stickers needed, since the molded pearlescent and metallic plastic does most of the color separation on its own.
The transformation from armored Magnum form to stripped Phoenix mode is the mechanical highlight, swapping the Hyper Doze Rifle Magnum, twin beam sabers, and Siege Shield configuration for a leaner silhouette using the same frame. Four Funnel F units and a display stand let you pose the funnels floating around the suit, which adds real shelf presence for an HG price point, even though the extra armor and funnel mounts noticeably cut into leg articulation range versus a plain Magnum.
