Assault Booster & High Mobility Unit for OZX-GU01A Gundam Geminass 01

A P-Bandai armor set that makes a good HG kit into two different, meaner-looking ones.

The verdict

I like this expansion set for exactly what it is, a clever way to get two new silhouettes out of one HG kit, and I do not pretend it is a must-own.

The assault booster and high mobility unit are both new tooling, not recolored leftovers, and clipping them onto a Geminass 01 you already built genuinely changes how the suit reads. But it is a P-Bandai exclusive add-on, it needs the base kit to do anything, and it comes with a couple of real annoyances once it is all connected.

Best for: Geminass 01 owners who want the two alternate loadouts and do not mind Premium Bandai shopping and some fiddling

The full review

What it is

This is not a standalone Gundam, it is an accessory expansion that clips onto the HG 1/144 Gundam Geminass 01 you build separately. You get a space-use assault booster with big shoulder, back, and leg thrusters, and a high mobility unit for atmospheric use, and both are entirely new molds rather than repainted parts from the base kit. Snapping either one onto a finished Geminass 01 changes its profile completely, from a lean mobile suit into something bulkier and more gear-laden, and I had fun treating it like getting a second and third kit out of one figure.

The catch

Most of the new color coding comes molded in rather than on stickers, which I appreciate, but there are still stickers for some of the finer trim. The bigger issues showed up once everything was attached: the extra mass from the booster can make the Geminass 01's abdomen warp under the load, and the shoulder booster pod is loose enough to pop off with normal handling, more so after repeated posing. None of that ruins the kit, but it means this is not a set you clip on once and forget. It is also Premium Bandai only, so you are paying importer or aftermarket prices on top of the base kit you already need to own.

Who it's for

If you already have or plan to build the Geminass 01 and you like the idea of two extra configurations without buying two more full kits, this is worth tracking down. Builders who care about the After Colony side stories and want the combined heavy-equipment look will get real mileage out of it. Skip it if you do not own the base suit, since it is useless on its own, or if loose joints and a part that needs occasional re-seating are dealbreakers for you. This is a supplement for someone already invested in the character, not a first Gunpla purchase.

The build story

What the build is actually like, and the engineering worth knowing about.

The parts count is modest since this is an add-on rather than a full kit, and assembly is quick, mostly clipping booster segments onto existing Geminass 01 joints and swapping a few connector parts. Gate placement on the new tooling is clean for how small some of the thruster segments are, and seam lines stay mostly hidden once everything nests together, which is a nice touch on parts this size.

The engineering idea, letting one base suit wear either a space booster or an atmospheric mobility pack, is the whole appeal here, and it mostly delivers. Color coding on the new parts is handled in molded plastic rather than leaning on stickers, so the finished look holds up. The tradeoff is mechanical stress on the base kit's joints once the booster is mounted, which is where the warping and the loose shoulder pod complaints both come from.

Lore & trivia

  • 01The OZX-GU01A Gundam Geminass 01 first appeared in the manga New Mobile Report Gundam Wing Dual Story: G-Unit, piloted by Odin Bernett of MO-V.
  • 02Geminass 01 was developed by the fictional Dr. Berg and built around modular construction, letting nearly every part be swapped for different mission environments, which is exactly what this expansion set represents in kit form.
  • 03The suit also runs a PX system that boosts performance off the pilot's adrenaline, but with a time limit that carries serious consequences for both pilot and machine if exceeded.
  • 04Despite armor made of Gundanium Alloy and a silhouette that echoes the five Wing-era Gundams, the Geminass units are not directly related to Operation Meteor, the name Gundam only stuck after Odin adopted it once he learned what the term meant to colonists.
