This one caught me off guard, in a good way, because I went in expecting a throwaway accessory and came out with one of the more useful little boxes in my Build Divers stack.
It is not a mobile suit, it is the actual rifle the GM III Beam Master carries in the show, sold on its own so you can hand serious firepower to whichever HG is standing on your desk. For 648 yen you get real swap-part engineering, not a single molded prop.
Best for: HG builders who want a proper weapon-customizing kit to arm their existing Build Divers or generic HG mobile suits
What it is
The Changeling Rifle is exactly what the GM III Beam Master fires in Gundam Build Divers, split off into its own HGBC (HG Build Custom) release so any HG figure in your collection can carry it. Two runners give you interchangeable stocks, barrels, and muzzle caps, plus a rotating base so the rifle actually swaps between its in-show beam rifle mode and beam vulcan mode. It also has a socket built to connect to a Buster Binder for the Fusion Beam pose. I liked that Bandai treated a support weapon like a real kit instead of a single static sculpt, there is genuine mix-and-match design work packed into this tiny box.
The catch
This is a weapon, full stop, there is no mobile suit body in the box and no articulation to speak of beyond the barrel rotation and grip attachment, so if you were hoping for a figure to pose on your shelf on its own you will be disappointed. The part count is small and the runners are mostly rifle geometry, so builders looking for detail payoff or a satisfying multi-step assembly will find it over in a few minutes. Bandai also molded it in a fairly flat gunmetal gray with no stickers or paint apps, so out of the box it reads a bit plain until you actually hand it to a Gunpla.
Who it's for
Grab this if you build HGBD kits or any HG with a 1/144 hand grip and you want a bigger, meaner-looking rifle than the stock loadout, or if you just like collecting weapon sprues to mix and match across your kits. Skip it if you are new to Gunpla and looking for your next full build, this will not scratch that itch since there is no suit here. It is a cheap, smart accessory purchase for an established collection, not a standalone recommendation for someone building their first kit.
The build story
What the build is actually like, and the engineering worth knowing about.
The build itself is short, two runners worth of parts, and the cleanup is minimal since the rifle geometry is simple compared to a full suit kit. What stood out to me is that the parts are not just cosmetic swaps, the stock, barrel, and muzzle options actually change the silhouette of the rifle enough that it looks like a different weapon depending on how you configure it.
The rotating barrel base is the clever bit of engineering here, it lets the rifle flip between the beam rifle mode and the beam vulcan mode that the GM III Beam Master uses on screen, and there is a socket to connect the rifle to a Buster Binder for the show's Fusion Beam pose. For 648 yen that is a lot of functional design packed into a weapon-only release, and it is a genuinely good value if you already own HG kits that can hold it.
