This is a re-issue done right, not a lazy repaint.
Bandai took the HGUC Delta Gundam mold, gave it a proper Gundam-style head, a redesigned funnel-shield, and a genuinely better leg transformation, then finished the whole thing in a semi-gloss silver plating that photographs beautifully on the shelf. It costs more than a standard HG and it is a Premium Bandai exclusive, so availability is the real obstacle here, not the kit itself.
Best for: Delta Gundam fans and UC completionists who want the definitive silver variant without hunting down a second Delta Plus just to swap heads
What it is
The Delta Zayin takes the bones of the HGUC Delta Gundam, a suit that was already a solid transforming HG, and reworks the parts that mattered. The head got swapped out for a more traditional Gundam face, the shield now houses a pair of articulated funnel-like fins that fold out for I-Field or Mega Particle Cannon poses, and it ships with the Zeta Gundam's beam rifle instead of recycling the old Delta's. The silver plating is the first thing anyone notices out of the box. It reads as a proper metallic sheen without the fingerprint-magnet glare of full chrome, and it holds up under normal handling far better than I expected from a plated finish.
The catch
This is a Premium Bandai exclusive, which means P-Bandai pricing and P-Bandai availability, both worse than a shelf-standard HG. Builders point out the shoulders have limited upward reach even though the elbows and hips move well, so overhead poses fight you a little. It is also, underneath the new head and shield, still the Delta Gundam kit from years back, so anyone expecting all-new engineering top to bottom will find some of the frame feels familiar rather than fresh. Seam lines show up on a few of the larger surface panels, more noticeable here because the silver finish shows every line.
Who it's for
If you already like the Delta Gundam's transforming gimmick and want the version tied to Silver Phantom's story and its Argent Keil silver color scheme, this is worth tracking down on the secondary market or through a P-Bandai order window. Skip it if you are hunting for a brand new engineering showcase, since the core frame is a known quantity, or if the plated finish and import pricing put you off Premium Bandai kits generally. For a first Delta-line kit, the standard HGUC Delta Plus is the cheaper entry point.
The build story
What the build is actually like, and the engineering worth knowing about.
Because this reuses the Delta Gundam frame, anyone who has built that kit before will recognize the runner layout and joint construction immediately. The plated silver parts need the same careful handling as any plated Bandai kit, gates should be clipped and cleaned patiently since scuffing the coating is harder to fix than scuffing plain molded plastic. The instruction manual, despite the P-Bandai exclusivity, is full color and includes background material on the suit, a nice touch that closes some of the gap with standard retail releases.
The engineering standouts are the reworked shield, which houses a folding funnel-fin pair capable of an I-Field or Mega Particle Cannon pose, and the upgraded wave rider transformation that no longer requires swapping leg parts. Hip ball joints give good spread for a stable wide stance, and the knees bend enough for a real kneeling pose. Accessories cover a beam rifle borrowed from the Zeta Gundam line, beam saber blades, alternate hands, and the transformation hardware, a reasonable loadout for the price band even before factoring in the finish.
Lore & trivia
- 01The Delta Zayin first appeared in the VR film Mobile Suit Gundam: Silver Phantom as an upgraded variant of the MSN-001A1 Delta Plus, built by Anaheim Electronics for the Argent Keil organization.
- 02Its silver finish is a deliberate nod to Argent Keil's identity, with the color scheme built into the story rather than being a cosmetic-only variant.
- 03The suit carries Psycho-Frame and I-Field technology and retains the Delta Plus's ability to transform into Wave Rider mode for high-speed atmospheric and space flight.
- 04Instead of reusing the original Delta Gundam's beam rifle, the kit ships with the HGUC Zeta Gundam's beam rifle for a different weapon profile.
