This is a genuinely clever value play dressed up as a niche exclusive.
Bandai took the three separate Ez-SR kits from Build Fighters Try (Intruder, Eliminator, Shadow Phantom) and folded every one of their weapons and gimmicks into a single Pro-Shop release. I like it a lot more than I expected to for a kit that never got a wide retail run, because the combined loadout actually changes how the finished figure sits on a shelf compared to any one of the solo versions.
Best for: Build Fighters Try fans and gimmick-kit collectors who want the full Ez-SR arsenal on one frame instead of three separate boxes
What it is
The Ez-SR-MAXIMA is the all-in-one version of the Seiren team's Ez-SR Gundams from episode 6 of Gundam Build Fighters Try, the round where three fighters' machines gang up on the Try Fighters using scouted-out weaknesses. Instead of picking one of the three base loadouts, this kit hands you the short-barrel beam rifle, the 180mm forearm cannon, the sensor shield, the missile launcher, twin chest vulcans, and the beam sabers all at once. Snapping it together, the character comes from the sheer number of ways you can rig the arms and back before you even reach for a pose. It reads as a parts-bin flex more than a refined mobile suit, and once I had it loaded up I understood why the anime treated this as the scary upgrade version.
The catch
It is built on the older Ez-SR frame, so the articulation ceiling is lower than a current HGBF kit. The rear skirt armor does not articulate and the front skirts only rotate so far, which caps how deep you can get into a kneeling or lunging pose before the hip area binds. It was also a Bandai Hobby Pro-Shop exclusive, so it never had a normal retail run, and finding one now usually means secondary market or import pricing rather than a shelf pickup. With that many accessories crammed onto one frame, keeping every weapon mounted at once also adds real weight to the arms and back that the joints have to hold.
Who it's for
If you already like the Ez-SR designs from Build Fighters Try and want the definitive loaded-out version instead of hunting down three separate kits, this is the one to track down. It also works if you just enjoy a kit that rewards fiddling with weapon combinations over one that hands you a single fixed loadout. Skip it if hip and skirt articulation is a dealbreaker for you, or if you are not willing to pay import/secondary prices for a kit that was never a normal retail item. Anyone wanting a modern HGBF experience should look at a newer release instead.
The build story
What the build is actually like, and the engineering worth knowing about.
The build runs across 11 runners and goes together the way most Ez-SR-era HGBF kits do, snap-fit with no cement needed and color molding that carries most of the detail without paint. Gate placement is on the plain side by modern standards, nothing that trips up a first-time builder, and the parts fit snug enough that nothing feels loose coming off the runner.
The standout here is the sheer accessory count for a 1/144 HG-line kit at this price point: short-barrel beam rifle, 180mm cannon, missile launcher, sensor shield, twin chest vulcans, and beam sabers all included and all mountable at the same time. Articulation is fully posable through the shoulders, elbows, and knees, but the skirts are the weak point, the rear skirt is fixed and the front skirts have a shallow rotation range that limits how far you can push a dynamic pose.
Lore & trivia
- 01The Ez-SR-MAXIMA combines the loadouts of the three separate Ez-SR kits (Intruder, Eliminator, Shadow Phantom) piloted by the Seiren team in Gundam Build Fighters Try episode 6
- 02The kit was a Bandai Hobby Pro-Shop exclusive released in February 2016 rather than a standard wide retail HGBF release
- 03In the anime, Sei Iori's Build Burning Gundam uses its Winning Knuckle to destroy the communication jammers the Ez-SR units deploy, then outpunches and destroys the Ez-SR Intruder outright
