The verdict

This is the classic HGUC F91 mold run twice in new colors, and once you accept that, it's a genuinely good deal.

You get two nearly identical prototype units from the F91 Prequel manga, each with its own beam machine gun sculpt and color scheme, built on a frame that's held up fine since its original release. It's not reinventing anything, it's just giving you double the F91 fun with new markings and a story hook most casual builders have never heard of.

What it is

This is a P-Bandai exclusive two-pack that reuses the well-regarded HGUC Gundam F91 mold to build the two prototype Vital Units from the F91 Prequel manga instead of the movie's hero unit. Each figure gets molded-color changes plus a newly sculpted beam machine gun, and you get two full loadouts of beam rifle, beam saber, beam launcher, and beam shield across the set. Building two of the same frame back to back is oddly satisfying, the second build always goes faster once the part layout clicks, and seeing them side by side in their different color schemes sells the twin-prototype concept better than either kit would alone.

The catch

The frame underneath is from an older HGUC release, so it doesn't have the fully modern engineering you'd find in a brand new 2020s HG. Identification markings come on a sticker sheet rather than molded or printed details, so you're relying on decal work to sell the color-coded unit numbers cleanly. It's also P-Bandai exclusive, meaning aftermarket pricing runs higher than a retail HG and secondhand stock isn't always easy to find. None of this is a dealbreaker, but go in knowing you're paying a premium for lore-accurate recolors of an existing mold, not new tooling.

Because it's the familiar F91 mold, gate placement and part fit are well trodden ground, nothing here surprised builders who'd already done the original kit. Cleanup is standard HG fare, small nubs on visible panel edges that reward a quick clip and sand pass, and the two builds go by fast once you're not stopping to puzzle out instructions.

The standout for the set is the new beam machine gun sculpt with its movable side grip, which gives both units a weapon the base F91 release never had. Combine that with the shared beam rifle, saber, launcher, and shield, and each unit ends up fully posed and armed rather than sharing accessories, which is what makes the double price tag feel earned rather than redundant.
