The verdict

This is a genuinely fun HG built around a great gimmick, the Build Booster snap-on backpack, and it holds a pose better than most kits in its price class.

I like it a lot with one big asterisk: the booster itself is a giant slab of color-coded plastic that leans hard on stickers instead of molded color, and on this clear blue release those stickers read even more like an afterthought against the translucent runners. Take the backpack out of the equation and the base Build Strike underneath is one of the better HG Strike variants Bandai has made.

Best for: Gundam Build Fighters fans and HG collectors chasing the clear-blue prize variant who don't mind reaching for paint on the booster

The full review

What it is

The Build Strike Gundam Full Package is Sei Iori's signature machine from Gundam Build Fighters, the Build Strike base suit combined with the Build Booster support unit that Reiji pilots into most of his big fights. This clear blue version is the translucent recolor of the original HGBF release, and holding the runners up to light is honestly the best part of owning it, the frame pieces look like colored glass under the joints. The core Build Strike is a well proportioned HG with a nice head sculpt and a loadout that actually matches the anime: beam gun that folds into a rifle, chobham shield, twin sabers, and the booster's dual cannons once you clip it all together.

The catch

The Build Booster backpack is where the compromises live. It is molded almost entirely in the base blue plastic with white trim handled by stickers rather than a separate colored runner, and on the clear version that gap between glassy blue plastic and flat white decal is more obvious, not less. Builders also flag visible nub marks on the booster's larger flat panels since there is nowhere to hide a gate on a big smooth surface. Fully assembled with the booster mounted, the range of motion in the shoulders and hips drops noticeably, the wings and cannon arms start colliding with your poses. It is also a 2013-era HG kit at heart, so panel lines are shallow and detail is achieved more through the boxy Strike-frame shaping than fine engraving.

Who it's for

Grab this one if you are into Gundam Build Fighters specifically, want the Sei/Reiji machine on your shelf, or collect the Dengeki Gundam King clear variant runs and don't mind the booster's sticker sheet. It is also a fair pick for someone newer to the hobby since HG-level assembly is forgiving and the finished pose with the booster and cannons is a real centerpiece look. Skip it if you want a suit that stands great with the backpack attached and never touch a bottle of paint, the booster will always be the weak link until you commit to painting the white trim yourself instead of relying on the stickers.

The build story

What the build is actually like, and the engineering worth knowing about.

Assembly on the base Build Strike is straightforward HG fare, snap-fit joints, a manageable part count, and clean fit through the torso and limbs. The Build Booster adds its own short sub-build that clips onto the backpack, and that's where the pace slows down since you're matching sticker placement across several large flat surfaces rather than just clipping parts together.

The standout engineering is the booster's transformation from a standalone fighter craft into the backpack unit, a nice nod to how it works on screen. Weapon variety is the other strength, you get the full beam gun to rifle to enhanced rifle progression plus the shield and sabers, which is a lot of accessories for an HG. Color separation on the core suit is solid molded plastic; it's specifically the booster's trim where the kit leans on decals instead.

Lore & trivia

  • 01The Build Strike Gundam Full Package is Sei Iori's personal Gunpla build in Gundam Build Fighters, primarily piloted in battle by Reiji.

  • 03When mounted on the Build Strike, the Build Booster is stated to boost the suit's output by 160 percent and can also operate independently as a standalone fighter craft.
  • 04This clear blue colorway was distributed as a special prize edition tied to the Dengeki Gundam King 2015 contest, distinct from the standard-color HGBF release.
