The Guren S.E.I.T.E.N.
Eight Elements is one of the more interesting redesigns in the back half of R2, and the kit does right by it with new 2023 tooling rather than a repaint of the older Guren Type-02 mold. I like that Bandai treated this as its own kit instead of a parts-swap accessory set, matching the significant visual and equipment changes the suit goes through in the story. The tradeoffs are the same ones that come with any Premium Bandai release: price, timing, and thin build documentation.
Best for: Code Geass fans building out Kallen's arc who want the flight-capable Second Battle of Tokyo era Guren specifically, not just a generic Guren on the shelf
What it is
This kit depicts the Guren S.E.I.T.E.N. Eight Elements, the upgraded form Kallen's Guren takes on after Camelot gets its hands on the captured machine and, much like Rakshata's work on the Shen Hu, arguably over-engineers it. The upgrade adds an integrated Energy Wing System for flight and Radiant Wave Shielding on top of the original grabbing-hand weapon, giving it a genuinely different silhouette and equipment list than the grounded Guren Type-02 it evolved from. Bandai released this as a 2023 HG in the same 1/35 scale and new-tool approach as the rest of the modern Code Geass line, packaged in the same rigid, top-opening box as Lancelot Albion rather than a cheaper folding carton.
The catch
Like the rest of this line's exclusives, it never got a standard retail run, so you are looking at a Premium Bandai order window or the resale market to actually get one. The weapon loadout on the real suit is fairly involved (harken boosters, a radiation wave unit, an MVS fork knife, the Energy Wing System), and I don't have verified build reports specific to this release to tell you how that translates into part count or assembly complexity, so I'd rather flag that gap honestly than guess at it. Scale is also worth noting: 1/35 doesn't mix cleanly with a 1/144 Gundam shelf if that's what you're building alongside it.
Who it's for
This is for Code Geass builders who specifically want Kallen's flight-capable, post-capture Guren rather than a generic version of the mech, especially if you're planning to pair it later with the earlier Guren Type-02 Ni-Shiki for a before-and-after display. If the specific loadout doesn't matter to you and you just want a Guren on the shelf, the plain retail Mechanic Collection releases are a cheaper, easier way in.
The build story
What the build is actually like, and the engineering worth knowing about.
Confirmed going in: this is new tooling for the 2023 release, not a recolor of the older Guren Type-02 mold, and it comes in the same rigid top-opening box Bandai uses for the rest of this modern 1/35 line rather than a cheaper folding carton. The real machine's standard equipment list runs to harken boosters, an integrated Energy Wing System, Radiant Wave Shielding, and an MVS fork knife, so there is genuinely more going on here than the earlier grounded Guren.
I don't have independent build logs specific to this kit to draw granular assembly or articulation claims from, and I'd rather tell you that directly than invent detail. What's verifiable is that Bandai committed to fresh tooling and premium packaging for it rather than treating the upgrade as an afterthought accessory set.
Lore & trivia
- 01Its full in-universe name is the Guren S.E.I.T.E.N. Eight Elements (Guren Seiten Hakkyokushiki), an upgrade of the Guren Flight-Enabled Version built after Kallen's capture by the Holy Britannian Empire.
- 02Standard equipment includes an integrated Energy Wing System for flight and Radiant Wave Shielding, distinguishing it from the grounded Guren line that came before it.
- 03It's piloted by Kallen Kozuki and is recovered by the Black Knights, along with Kallen herself, during the Second Battle of Tokyo Settlement.
- 04The 2023 HG release uses the same new-tool, 1/35 scale approach as the rest of the modern Code Geass HG line, including a Premium Bandai exclusive release status.
