I like this kit more than its odd silhouette suggests I should.
The Wodom Pod is a low-stress, high-personality HG built around a genuinely strange design, legs growing straight out of a hemispherical head, and it nails the pose language from the show without fighting you for it. It will not test your skills or your patience. What it will do is sit differently on a shelf than almost anything else in your case.
Best for: casual builders who want an easy, characterful weekend build and Turn A or Build Divers fans who want the oddball design in hand
What it is
The Wodom Pod is May's custom Gunpla from Build Divers Re:RISE, a reskin of the Wodom from Turn A Gundam (one of Syd Meade's designs for that show) rebuilt around the idea that her Mobile Doll rides inside the dome-shaped head, essentially piloting the whole suit like a mech inside a mech. That premise carries over into the kit in a fun way, the head is a distinct assembly you can pop open, and the legs and arms genuinely do fold back so the whole thing collapses into the High-Speed Flight Form from the anime. I went in expecting a gimmick and came out liking how directly the transformation and the silhouette both track the source material.
The catch
This is a Skill Level 2, budget-tier HG, and it builds like one. Part count is low and there's nothing fiddly in it, which is a plus for a relaxed session but means detail is thinner than you'd get from a pricier HG. Color separation leans on stickers rather than molded plastic, most noticeably a sticker on the underside of the rear skirt armor and a cluster of them across the domed head, so if you're sticker-averse you're doing some extra work or a paint job to get the look clean. It also doesn't come with much in the way of held weapons or extra hands, so display options are basically the two stock forms and whatever pose you can get out of the frame itself.
Who it's for
Grab this if you want an easy, fast, genuinely different-looking kit to break up a shelf full of standard humanoid Gunpla, or if you're a Build Divers or Turn A fan who wants May's Wodom Pod in hand rather than just on screen. Skip it if you want a kit that rewards careful gate cleanup and panel lining with a ton of payoff, or if you need accessories and holding hands to pose it with other kits. It's a mood piece and a low-effort build, not a display centerpiece you'll spend a weekend detailing.
The build story
What the build is actually like, and the engineering worth knowing about.
It's a Skill Level 2 kit and feels like one, snip the parts from the runners, clean the gate marks, and you're not hunting for tiny nubs or wrestling stubborn polycaps anywhere in the process. The torso has a big curved socket at the top that the domed head and Mobile Doll assembly plug into, along with sockets for the legs and arms, so the core structure goes together fast and locks in solidly.
The standout engineering is the transformation gimmick, fold the legs up and swing the arms back and the whole thing collapses into the High-Speed Flight Form from the anime, which is a nice bit of design for an HG at this price. Articulation is generous for how the suit is shaped, the long-reach legs give it real melee poses, and a display base is included so you can mount it in flight form. Where it comes up short is accessories, there's no loadout of extra weapons or holding hands to round out a pose.
Lore & trivia
- 01The Wodom Pod is a Gunpla built in-universe by May in Gundam Build Divers Re:RISE, based on the original Wodom mobile suit from Turn A Gundam
- 02The source Wodom was designed by Syd Meade, the industrial designer brought in for Turn A Gundam's mechanical designs
- 03In the show, May's Mobile Doll physically boards the Wodom Pod and pilots it from inside the dome-shaped head, effectively a mech riding inside another mech
- 04The kit can fold into a High-Speed Flight Form by tucking the legs and swinging the arms backward, matching a transformation used in the anime
