The verdict

I like this kit for exactly what it refuses to be: a combat mobile suit.

The Medd is a four-legged, two-armed work pod that existed for one scene of stowing away and one scene of demolition work, and Bandai built it with more care than a background unit like this usually gets. It will not wow anyone looking for articulation or firepower, but as a piece of Char's Counterattack trivia made physical, it is a genuinely charming little object.

Best for: Char's Counterattack completionists and diorama builders who want the Ra Cailum hangar populated with something other than another Nu Gundam

The full review

What it is

The Medd is the tiny utility suit Hathaway Noah bought secondhand from a junk dealer to sneak aboard the Ra Cailum, and that his father Bright later piloted for demolition work inside Axis. Bandai's HG take leans into that oddball charm rather than fighting it. The hemispherical canopy actually opens, and there is a real cockpit interior behind it, something I did not expect on a kit this small and this cheap. The four-leg, two-arm layout reads as more insect than robot, and once assembled it has a lopsided, working-vehicle personality that none of the combat suits on my shelf share. It is a fast, low-stress build, and I found myself grinning at how earnestly it commits to being a glorified forklift.

The catch

This was a Gundam Base exclusive, and reports of stores selling through their stock within about a week of the August 2025 release mean it is already awkward to track down outside secondhand or Base-visit channels. There are no weapons and nothing to fight, so if you want a kit you can pose in an action shot, this is not it. The leg gimmick is a parts swap rather than a hinge, meaning you pick stowed or deployed at build time and commit, you do not get to flip between the two on a whim once it is together.

Who it's for

Buy this if you already love Char's Counterattack enough to want its background cast, not just its Gundams, or if you are building a Ra Cailum hangar diorama and want something other than a hero unit filling the corner. Skip it if you only own a couple of kits and want your next one to be posable and dynamic, because the Medd was never built for that job. It rewards people who already know why Hathaway needed a junk mobile pod in the first place.

The build story

What the build is actually like, and the engineering worth knowing about.

It goes together fast and without drama. The canopy shell is the one part that rewards a careful hand, since it is the focal point of the kit and any visible seam or nub scar sits right where your eye lands first. The cockpit interior is a nice surprise for something this size, and the hatch swings open and shut cleanly once assembled.

The standout engineering is in the gimmicks rather than raw articulation. You choose between the stowed and leg-deployed stance through parts replacement, and the arms have a genuine telescoping extend-and-retract action that mimics the work-pod's actual function in the show. Part count is modest and there are no accessories to speak of, so the value here is entirely in the novelty and the faithfulness to a suit almost nobody else would have bothered modeling.

Lore & trivia

  • 01The Medd is a work-use mobile pod with two arms and four legs, not a combat mobile suit, built for salvage and demolition labor rather than fighting
  • 02Hathaway Noah bought it secondhand from a junk dealer called The Alexanders on Londenion, financed on a 50-month payment plan, specifically to stow away aboard the Ra Cailum
  • 03Bright Noah later piloted the same Medd for demolition work inside the asteroid Axis during Neo Zeon's attempt to drop it on Earth
  • 04The kit released August 23, 2025 as a Gundam Base Limited exclusive priced at 2,200 yen, with new Char's Counterattack branded package art
