MS-07H-8 Gouf Flight Type (21st Century Real Type Ver.)
The same excellent HGUC Gouf Flight Type engineering, wearing a real-world-inspired paint job that makes the flight pose actually pop.

This is a genuinely well-engineered HGUC kit dressed up in a Gundam Base exclusive colorway, and the colorway earns its place.
The mono-eye switch, the ball-jointed neck, and the shoulder armor that lifts clear of the arm are all present and all still feel clever years after the mold was cut. The real-type scheme (grays and dark greens instead of the show's teal and maroon) reads far better in hand than I expected, especially once the panel lines catch light on that clear flight stand. I'd call it one of the better HG-era One Year War kits you can build.
Best for: 08th MS Team fans and Gouf collectors who want the flight variant in a scale-model color scheme rather than anime colors
What it is
This is the HGUC MS-07H-8 Gouf Flight Type, the aerial variant of Zeon's melee-focused Gouf line from The 08th MS Team, reissued through Gundam Base in a real-type color scheme supervised by a Bandai color specialist rather than the show's teal and maroon. Building it, what struck me was how much personality Bandai packed into a kit this size. The head unit alone has a working mono-eye slider, the backpack thrusters and stabilizer fins genuinely change the silhouette from the ground-combat Gouf, and the gatling shield plus heat sword loadout gives you two very different display options. It comes together fast, but it never feels cheap while you're doing it.
The catch
The waist is the weak point here. Because the movement pipes running from the torso to the skirt are molded rather than jointed, torso rotation and forward bend are both shallow, so dynamic flying poses take real work with the included stand rather than the body alone. The neck only swivels side to side on its ball joint, it does not tilt, which limits head-acting for a suit whose signature feature is a mono-eye. This being a Gundam Base exclusive real-type recolor, molded plastic color counts change from the standard release, so expect a little more paint or panel-lining if you want the darker tones to read cleanly at the seams.
Who it's for
If you already like the standard HGUC Gouf Flight Type and want a second copy in a scale-model palette instead of screen colors, this is worth tracking down, and the clear flight pedestal genuinely helps sell the aerial half of the kit. It is also a solid pickup for anyone building out a full 08th MS Team shelf, since the Gouf line rarely gets this much attention in HG. I would not point a first-time builder here specifically for the recolor, since the value proposition is the paint job on top of an already-available kit, but as a Gouf on its own merits it holds up next to kits released years after it.
The build story
What the build is actually like, and the engineering worth knowing about.
The build itself is quick and low-friction, which is typical for an HGUC of this vintage. Gate placement stays out of the way on visible surfaces, cleanup is minimal, and the parts snap together with confident, positive fit rather than the loose click you sometimes get on older HG molds. Nothing here fights you, and there is no sticker-heavy shortcut standing in for real color separation, most of the scheme comes molded in.
Where the kit earns its reputation is the small mechanical touches: the sliding mono-eye, the shoulder blocks that clear the arm for horizontal raises, and elbows and knees that both bend past 90 degrees for a suit this size. The gatling shield and heat sword cover both of the Gouf's signature combat styles, and the flight-specific backpack and leg thrusters make this variant read as genuinely different from the ground Gouf rather than a reflex reissue with new decals.
Lore & trivia
- 01The MS-07H-8 Gouf Flight Type is the completed, standardized successor to the ill-fated MS-07H-4 Gouf Flight Test Type, and it entered limited combat deployment near the end of the One Year War.
- 02In Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team, a Gouf Flight Type piloted by Zhukov ambushes the 08th MS Team, and later units escort the Apsalas III mobile armor out of Ginias Sahalin's Southeast Asian base.
- 03This particular release is a Gundam Base exclusive that swaps the anime's teal and maroon Zeon colors for a real-type scheme, with the color direction credited to a Bandai colorist specifically to make the suit look plausible as a real-world aircraft.
- 04The kit ships with a clear pedestal stand built specifically to let builders pose the suit in flight, reinforcing the Flight Type's identity as an aerial variant rather than a straight ground-combat recolor.
