I like this kit more than I expected to going in.
It leans on the older Efreet Custom tooling, so don't expect cutting edge engineering, but Bandai used that base smartly, adding a swap-in knee piece for a proper sniper crouch and handing you five distinct weapons in one box. It is not the most refined HG on my shelf, but it is one of the more characterful ones. If you can actually find one at a fair price, it earns its spot.
Best for: Universal Century collectors who want a sniper-flavored Efreet variant and don't mind hunting a P-Bandai exclusive
What it is
This is Helena Hegel's Efreet from Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation Code Fairy, and it is built on the reworked Efreet Custom frame with new shoulders, chest, waist armor, legs, and backpack molded specifically for the Jaeger. The main purple is molded in, not painted on, so the kit looks right straight off the runners, and the sniper rifle comes with a jeweled scope lens that actually reads as a lens instead of a painted dot. What won me over is the knee piece you swap in to drop the suit into a proper kneeling snipe stance. It's a small part, but it changes how the whole kit reads on the shelf, from a brawler silhouette to a marksman one.
The catch
This is still an Efreet Custom underneath, and that frame goes back to the earlier HGUC era, so the engineering is not going to wow anyone used to modern HG ratchet joints. The hip and torso movement especially feel like an older design, functional but not dynamic. It's also a Premium Bandai exclusive, which means no retail shelf presence, inflated aftermarket prices once stock dries up, and a sticker sheet for the unit emblems rather than tampo printing. None of that is a dealbreaker, but budget for the hunt and the price before you commit.
Who it's for
Grab this if you already like the Efreet family, want a sniper-coded variant with a genuinely useful pose gimmick, or you're chasing Gundam Battle Operation Code Fairy suits specifically. Skip it if you want the smoothest, most modern HG engineering for the money, or if you're not willing to pay P-Bandai exclusive prices for a suit you could get for less in a mainline release. For the Efreet-curious with some patience, it's a satisfying, characterful build.
The build story
What the build is actually like, and the engineering worth knowing about.
The build itself is straightforward Efreet Custom assembly with the new Jaeger-specific parts for the head, shoulders, arm shield, chest, waist armor, legs, and backpack dropped in on top. Nothing here fights you, the new parts fit the older frame cleanly, and the sniper rifle's scope lens is a nice tactile touch to assemble.
The standout is the loadout. You get a dedicated sniper rifle, a sawed off shotgun, a heat knife, removable crackers that mount to the leg, and a camera gun, which is a genuinely unusual spread for an HG at this price point. Add the swappable sniper-crouch knee piece and you have more posing personality than most kits this size offer, even if the base frame's range of motion is a step behind current HG engineering.
Lore & trivia
- 01The Efreet Jaeger is Helena Hegel's mobile suit in Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation Code Fairy, converted from a standard MS-08TX Efreet into a hybrid sniper and close-combat unit.
- 02The modifications were designed by fellow Noisy Fairy Squadron member Mia Brinkman, who drew on Hegel's earlier experience piloting an MS-06L Zaku II Sniper Type.
- 03It shares design elements developed for the MS-08TX/N Efreet Nacht at Odessa, including chest air vents removed to reduce its heat signature and twin leg boosters for extra mobility.
- 04The kit was released in February 2022 as a Premium Bandai exclusive, reusing and retooling the earlier HGUC Efreet Custom frame.
