The verdict

I like this kit more than a background mass-production suit has any right to be liked.

It takes the standard Space Jahannam and gives it a commander's kit of parts, the clear UV-reactive camera eye, a plasma axe that actually folds and unfolds into two distinct modes, and it still snaps together as easily as any other G-Reco HG. Nothing about it screams flagship release, but everything about it works the way it should.

Best for: Reconguista in G completionists and builders who want an easy, characterful commander-type grunt suit without MG money or MG time

The full review

What it is

This is the commander variant of the Amerian Army's Space Jahannam, the suit flown by Klimton Nicchini once he outranks the standard pilots. Bandai built it as a straightforward HG snap kit, no glue needed, and the parts that separate it from the base Jahannam are the ones that matter: a clear camera visor molded from UV-reactive plastic that shifts tone under sunlight or blacklight, blade antennae in place of the stock unit's plainer head, and a plasma axe that comes with both its folded travel state and its extended combat state as separate assembled pieces you swap between. The beam rifle and shield round it out. Building it is quick, low-stress, and satisfying in the way a well-cut HG always is.

The catch

Color separation leans on Tetron stickers for some of the finer commander-specific markings, which is the usual HG trade-off and means the finished kit looks noticeably better once you commit fifteen minutes to applying them carefully. The plasma axe's two-mode gimmick is really two separate axe assemblies rather than one that transforms in your hands, so you're swapping parts, not folding one piece, and that surprises people expecting an in-place transformation. Being a background suit from a less mainstream series, English-language build documentation and secondary market stock are both thinner than for UC-era kits, so if a piece goes missing you may be waiting on an import order.

Who it's for

Buy this if you're building out a Reconguista in G shelf and want the commander-tier suit rather than the plain grunt, or if you just like clean, honest mid-2010s HG engineering without spending MG money. It's also a fine suit for a newer builder who wants something with more presence than a starter kit but none of the part-count intimidation. Skip it if you specifically want UC Zeon or Federation suits, or if you need a kit with heavy aftermarket and tutorial support, because this one is genuinely under-covered outside of a handful of import shops and a couple of YouTube reviews.

The build story

What the build is actually like, and the engineering worth knowing about.

Runner cleanup is standard HG fare, gates are placed on flat or hidden surfaces on the limbs and torso, and nub scars clean up fast with a hobby knife. The clear visor part needs a gentle hand since UV-reactive plastic can show scuffs more easily than standard clear runners, but fit across the frame is snug without being a fight, and nothing on this kit demands force.

Articulation follows the usual G-Reco HG formula: double-jointed knees and elbows, a waist that rotates cleanly, and shoulders that swing out enough to raise the beam rifle two-handed without a fuss. The shield mounts securely on the forearm, the interchangeable hands give you open, gripping, and gun-holding options out of the box, and the dual-state plasma axe means you get a stored silhouette for standing poses and a full extended blade for action shots, which is more accessory variety than a lot of kits in this price band bother to include.

Lore & trivia

  • 01The Space Jahannam is the space-deployment variant of the Amerian Army's mass-produced Jahannam mobile suit in Mobile Suit Gundam: Reconguista in G.
  • 02This commander-use version is specifically associated with the pilot Klimton Nicchini (Klim Nick), distinguishing it from the standard-issue Space Jahannam flown by regular Amerian troops.
  • 03The kit's camera visor is molded in a UV-reactive clear plastic, so its apparent color shifts under direct sunlight or blacklight compared to indoor lighting.
  • 04It was released as part of Bandai's HG Reconguista in G line, the same no-glue, sticker-assisted HG format used across that series' other 1/144 releases.
