The verdict

This is the HG Origin GM engineering with a genuinely good paint job attached to it, and that combination works.

It borrows the double jointed elbows and knees that made the HG Origin GM line a step up from the old HGUC kits, then gives you molded colors for Sleggar Law's personal scheme instead of leaving you to sticker or paint it yourself. It is not a new kit at its core, but the parts that are new (head, chest, personal marking decals) are the parts that matter for this specific suit.

Best for: Universal Century GM collectors and Cucuruz Doan's Island fans who want Sleggar's ride without a paint booth

The full review

What it is

This kit is built on the same bones as the HG Gundam The Origin GM, which means you get double jointed elbows and knees, a torso that can crunch forward, and hip joints that swing and rotate enough to hold a real fighting stance. What sets it apart is the parts Bandai actually retooled: a new head with a clear blue camera part and molded internal sensor detail, and chest and shoulder panels shaped to carry Sleggar's white, blue, and red personal scheme in plastic rather than paint. Building it feels like assembling a familiar, trustworthy GM chassis that someone finally dressed properly.

The catch

This was a Bandai Hobby Online Shop / P-Bandai exclusive, so it never had a wide retail run and you are largely shopping secondary market or import shops at a premium over a standard HG. Most of the frame is shared tooling with other HG Origin GM variants, so if you already own one of those, a fair amount of this kit will feel familiar rather than novel. The personal markings come as water slide decals rather than dry transfers or stickers, which look great once applied but ask more patience and a steady hand than the average HG buyer is used to.

Who it's for

Buy this if you already like the HG Origin GM's engineering and want a UC-era support pilot suit with real personality instead of another plain green GM on the shelf. It also makes sense if Cucuruz Doan's Island is your favorite corner of the franchise and you want the White Base squad represented properly. Skip it if you are hunting for a totally fresh sculpt, if you are not willing to track down a secondary market copy at exclusive-kit pricing, or if water slide decals are more fuss than you want on an HG.

The build story

What the build is actually like, and the engineering worth knowing about.

The build itself is standard HG Origin fare: clean part fit, sensible gate placement on the runners, and nothing here that trips up a builder who has done a handful of HGs. The shield, beam rifle, and beam spray gun (early type) all peg on securely, and the beam saber tucks away on the hip the way you want it to for a clean silhouette when it is not in hand.

The articulation is the real selling point. Peg-and-socket hip joints let the thighs swing and rotate, the skirt armor lifts out of the way to clear that motion, and the ankles both tilt and swivel on a ball joint, so it holds a wide stance without looking like it is about to topple. Combined with the molded color scheme and the extra decal sheet for Sleggar's personal marks, the part count stays HG-modest but the finished suit reads as a fully realized alternate version of the GM rather than a repaint.

Lore & trivia

  • 01Sleggar Law was White Base's ace gunner in the original Mobile Suit Gundam, spending most of his combat time in the G-Fighter rather than a mobile suit.
  • 02This particular custom GM design comes from Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan's Island, the 2022 theatrical film, where his personal white, blue, and red scheme was given full molded-color treatment for the first time in kit form.
  • 03In Yoshikazu Yasuhiko's Gundam: The Origin continuity, an earlier version of Sleggar also piloted a customized GM during the defense of Jaburo, a design distinct from the Cucuruz Doan's Island version this kit represents.
  • 04The kit was released as a Bandai Hobby Online Shop (P-Bandai) exclusive in November 2022, which is why it never saw a wide general retail release.
