This kit is a smart repackage, not a new sculpt, and once you know that going in it is a satisfying, weapon-heavy weekend build.
Bandai took the 2011 HGUC GM III frame, bolted on Yukki's Build Divers gear (the Changeling Rifle, shin missile launchers, a new head), and the result punches above its price in accessory count. It is not going to wow you with articulation or fit, but for a support-type GM fan it delivers exactly the character it is supposed to.
Best for: Gundam Build Divers fans and GM-variant collectors who want a heavily armed sniper GM without paying MG money
What it is
This is Yukki's personal GM from Gundam Build Divers, built on the older HGUC RGM-86R GM III frame with a new head, extra armor, and a genuinely generous weapons loadout: the Changeling Rifle that can dock at the hip, two beam sabers, shin-mounted missile pods, and a large missile launcher for the shoulder. I liked how much stuff was in the box for the price. It reads as a proper long-range support unit on the shelf, and swapping between rifle-ready and saber poses gave me more to do with it than I expected from a basic HG.
The catch
The frame underneath is over a decade old and it shows. The wrist ball joints sit too far out of the socket on my build, giving the hands a slightly loose, wobbly look in hand-heavy poses. The large shin missile launcher pegs are also too long for their sockets, so they pop off if you nudge them wrong, which got old fast when I was trying to lock in a pose. Color separation leans on the sticker sheet for some of the finer marking work, and the price crept up from the original GM III release for what is mostly the same core kit plus an accessory sprue.
Who it's for
Grab this one if you are into Build Divers, want a distinctive sniper-loadout GM, or just like GM variants and don't mind an older frame under new gear. Skip it if a tight, contemporary HG fit is what you care about most, or if you already own the original HGUC GM III and don't need the extra weapons badly enough to pay the premium. As a first kit it still works fine since assembly is simple snap-fit with no glue, but there are newer HGs with tighter tolerances if fit is your priority.
The build story
What the build is actually like, and the engineering worth knowing about.
Assembly is straightforward snap-fit across thirteen runners with no cement needed, and gate placement is typical HGUC-era Bandai, easy to clip and clean with a basic side cutter. Nothing about the build itself is fiddly or slow, it is the kind of kit you can finish in one sitting without hunting for a reference sheet.
The standout is the weapons loadout for the price bracket: the Changeling Rifle docks at the hip when not in hand, the beam sabers store cleanly, and the shin missile launchers and shoulder launcher give the kit a genuinely different look from the vanilla GM III. Articulation is standard HG-of-its-era, workable for rifle and saber poses, but the loose wrist ball joints and the undersized missile-pod pegs undercut how well it actually holds those poses on the shelf.
Lore & trivia
- 01The RGM-86RBM GM III Beam Master is Yukki (Yukio Hidaka)'s customized Gunpla in Mobile Suit Gundam Build Divers, built as a dedicated long-range support unit.
- 02The kit reuses the frame from the HGUC RGM-86R GM III first released in August 2011, adding a new head, extra armor, and the Build Divers weapons set rather than an all-new sculpt.
- 03It retails higher than the original 2011 GM III kit it is based on, reflecting the added parts for the Changeling Rifle and missile hardpoints.
