RGM-89D-ESC Jegan Type D Escort Type
A P-Bandai side character kit that hands you a whole box of Jegan heads and armor for less than a Gundam Base snack run.

This is a background mobile suit kit that outperforms its billing.
It was never going to be a hero unit, it escorted Martha Vist Carbine in Gundam Narrative and got wrecked by a Dijeh for its trouble, but as a model it borrows the ECOAS Jegan's tight, well-engineered frame and adds a genuinely useful parts buffet on top. I went in expecting a reskin and came out with three different Jegan heads worth of options.
Best for: UC completionists and Jegan collectors who want the full parts-swap flexibility of the ECOAS-family frame in one box
What it is
This kit is built on the same bones as the HGUC Jegan ECOAS Type, which is one of the more quietly excellent entries in the old HGUC line, and it leans into that by shipping extra runners so you can build the normal head, the Type D head, or the ECOAS head, plus swappable chest armor, waists, and crotch sections. I did not expect a suit that shows up for a few seconds in Narrative and gets casually destroyed to come with this much flexibility in the box. The reinforced chest armor and new head sculpt actually change the silhouette enough that it does not just read as a repaint, it reads as its own variant.
The catch
There are no marking stickers included, which is unusual for a kit this price and means the waist and chest panel lines rely on foil stickers instead for color separation, so if you want the cleaner painted look you are on your own. It was a P-Bandai exclusive, so it never had wide retail distribution and secondary market prices have crept up since the 2019 release. The 90mm short machine gun is a nice unique inclusion but the rest of the weapon loadout (beam rifle, bazooka, shield) is the same set that has shipped with every other Jegan HGUC, so if you already own one, you are paying again for parts you have.
Who it's for
If you are chasing every UC Jegan variant or you like the idea of one box that can become three different Jegan configurations depending on which head and chest you clip in, this earns its keep. It is also a solid pickup if you have never built the ECOAS-family frame and want to see why people rate it so highly. Skip it if you already have an ECOAS Jegan on the shelf and just want the Escort Type's specific look, since you are mostly paying a premium for redundant runners and secondary market markup on a P-Bandai exclusive that never got a general release.
The build story
What the build is actually like, and the engineering worth knowing about.
The build itself follows the well-worn Jegan ECOAS-family path, which is a good thing. Gate placement is clean, nub scars land on parts of the frame you barely see once it is assembled, and nothing on the inner joints felt like it was fighting me. The extra head and armor runners add a bit more clipping and sorting than a standard single-configuration HG, but none of it is fiddly in a bad way, it is just more parts to keep track of.
Where this kit earns its price is engineering carryover: the ECOAS-based frame has tight hip and shoulder joints that hold poses without sagging, a rarity for a kit this old, and the swap system for heads and torso armor is genuinely satisfying to click through once assembled. Articulation matches the ECOAS type, meaning good knee bend and a reasonably wide shoulder swing for a suit this size. The accessory count is generous for an HGUC price point even if several pieces are recycled from other Jegan releases.
Lore & trivia
- 01The Jegan Type D Escort Type appears in Mobile Suit Gundam Narrative (U.C. 0097), where units escorted Martha Vist Carbine alongside Gustav Karl and Anksha mobile suits.
- 02Those escort units were destroyed or disabled by Michele Luio's MSK-008 Dijeh during the events of Narrative.
- 03The kit was released in January 2019 as a P-Bandai exclusive and includes spare parts to build the standard Jegan head, the Type D head, and the ECOAS head from a single box.
- 04Its main armament is a newly molded 90mm short machine gun, distinct from the beam rifle carried by most other Jegan variants.
