RX-78-2 Gundam Dragons Ver.
The reliable Revive mold in a ballpark jersey, and I mean that as a compliment.

I like this kit a lot more than a novelty giveaway has any right to be liked.
Underneath the Chunichi Dragons decals it is the 2015 HGUC Revive RX-78-2, which is one of the best cheap HG engineering jobs Bandai has ever put out, and that base carries this whole release. Take away the team branding and you still have a snappy, cheap, genuinely well posed Gundam. The branding is just a fun layer on top.
Best for: collectors chasing the 2019 Gundam x pro baseball promo series, or anyone who wants the Revive RX-78-2 with a story attached
What it is
This is the HGUC Revive RX-78-2 mold, the same one that redefined what a budget HG could do back in 2015, remolded in Chunichi Dragons team colors and packed with team decals to mark Gundam's 40th anniversary tie-in with 12 Japanese pro baseball clubs. Mine came together fast, under three hours, and every joint felt purposeful rather than loose. The head can actually look up, which sounds small until you have wrestled with an older HG that could not, and the shield clips on without needing a polycap. It builds like the excellent kit it is underneath the paint job.
The catch
This was a ticket bonus bundled with Chunichi Dragons game admission in May 2019, capped at 3,000 units across three days, so it was never meant to be a shelf staple and it shows in aftermarket pricing and scarcity now. The Dragons livery leans on decals and a swapped color scheme rather than any new sculpting, so if you already own a Revive RX-78-2 you are paying a premium for stickers and team pride, not new engineering. It is also still an HG, so panel lines are shallow and detail is soft compared to an RG or MG of the same suit.
Who it's for
If you collect Gundam crossover oddities, regional promos, or anything with a Japanese baseball team logo on a mobile suit's shoulder, this one is a fun grab and the underlying kit will not let you down. If you just want the best version of RX-78-2 to build and you do not care about the Dragons branding, buy a standard Revive HGUC instead and save the hunt for the promo copy. Skip it if you are chasing detail or articulation beyond what a base HG can give you.
The build story
What the build is actually like, and the engineering worth knowing about.
The build follows the standard Revive RX-78-2 sequence, and it moves fast. Nub placement is forgiving, gate cleanup is minimal, and nothing fought me during assembly. The semi-inner frame in the limbs gives the joints a snug, confident feel rather than the floppy click you get on older HG kits, and I never had a part pop loose while posing.
The real payoff is articulation for the price. The waist and hips let you get a proper wide stance, the knees bend past 90 degrees, and that head joint alone makes a noticeable difference in how alive the finished figure looks. Color separation on the Dragons colorway comes mostly from molded plastic with the team decals doing the rest, so cleanup is quick and the finished kit reads clean off the runners with very little painting needed.
Lore & trivia
- 01The kit was distributed as a ticket bonus for Chunichi Dragons home games played May 3 through 5, 2019, limited to 3,000 units across the three days.

- 03The molding is based on the HGUC Revive RX-78-2 Gundam first released in 2015, the version that upgraded the classic HG line with a semi-inner frame and improved head articulation.
- 04Chunichi Dragons also had an exclusive HGUC Gouf Revive molded in a darker team blue sold alongside the RX-78-2 giveaway at the same games.
