This one is a novelty kit first and a display piece second, and it mostly earns its place on the shelf anyway.
The soft-material skirt and sleeve parts genuinely capture the maid outfit in a way hard plastic never could, which is the whole point of buying this over a normal HG. It just costs you articulation and a little bit of your patience getting there.
Best for: Build Fighters fans and character-kit collectors who want Fumina's in-universe joke kit built well, not competitive posers chasing a wide stance
What it is
This is Bandai's HG take on the Gunpla-within-a-Gunpla joke from Build Fighters Try: Minato's tribute (without permission) to his rival Fumina, built to look like her dressed in a stylized maid version of her own Powered GM Cardigan. The A.E.U.G. Maid Ver. recolor keeps the frilly skirt panels and puffed sleeves molded in soft material over a normal HG frame, so out of the box it actually reads as fabric instead of painted plastic pretending to be fabric. Assembling it feels less like snapping together a mobile suit and more like dressing a small figure, and that novelty carries the build. The beam rifle, twin beam cannons, and beam-saber shield round it out so it is not just a static figure, it can actually pose with hardware.
The catch
The soft-material skirt is the kit's signature feature and its biggest complaint in the same breath. Builders consistently report it binds against the hip and thigh joints, cutting into the leg articulation the double-jointed limbs are otherwise built to deliver, so wide lunges and deep knee bends fight the costume. The included stickers for color separation have been called out for inconsistent printing, some run short of the panel they are meant to cover, which pushed more than one reviewer to paint instead. And this is a P-Bandai/limited-run character kit, not a mainline release, so pricing and availability run well above a standard HG and secondhand copies are the more common way in now.
Who it's for
Buy this if you already like Fumina as a character or you collect Build Fighters oddities and want the joke kit that started as an in-show gag to actually sit on your shelf as a finished piece. It rewards someone willing to paint over the stickers rather than trust them out of the box, and someone who is fine with a display pose over a deep action pose. Skip it if articulation and posing range are what you actually care about in a kit, or if you want a first Gunpla that behaves like a normal mobile suit build, this is a detour, not a main course.
The build story
What the build is actually like, and the engineering worth knowing about.
The frame underneath the costume assembles like a normal HG, snap-fit with the usual nub cleanup, and the soft-material skirt and sleeve pieces slot over it rather than replacing the build process. That said, test-fitting the skirt against the hips early saves frustration later, since it's the part most likely to fight the joints once everything is buttoned up. Builders who painted over the stickers instead of applying them reported a noticeably cleaner result given the reported print inconsistency.
The color separation on the hard-plastic sections is solid for an HG, and the soft-material approach to the maid outfit is the standout engineering idea here, it is not a common technique in this scale. Articulation is where it earns and loses points at once: double joints and swiveling thighs promise a wide range, but the costume physically limits how much of that range you get to use. The weapon set is generous for the price point and keeps the kit from being purely a display bust with legs.
Lore & trivia
- 01Super Fumina is an in-universe joke: Minato Sakai built it as an unauthorized, embarrassing tribute to his rival Fumina Hoshino for the Meijin Cup, styled after her own Gunpla, the RGM-237C Powered GM Cardigan.
- 02Despite the impressive build, Super Fumina lost its match in the show specifically because Minato never asked Fumina's permission to base it on her.
- 03The kit mixes soft material with standard styrene plastic to mimic the drape of real fabric on the skirt and sleeves, an unusual construction choice for an HG-scale kit.
- 04A.E.U.G. Maid Ver. is one of several recolors of the base Super Fumina mold (alongside a Titans Maid Ver. and an Axis Angel Ver.), all P-Bandai exclusives built on the same frame.
