This is one of the best straight HG kits Bandai has put out in years, and I do not say that lightly.
The re-engineered hips and abdomen give you poses the original Aerial simply could not hit, the color separation on the permet panels is close to painted-looking out of the box, and the GUND-Bit shield gimmick is genuinely fun to fiddle with instead of just being a display trick. For a 1/144 at this price it punches well above its weight.
Best for: builders who want the definitive HG version of a main-character Gundam without picking up a paintbrush
What it is
This is the Rebuild version of the Witch from Mercury's lead suit, and it exists specifically to fix what the original 2022 HG Aerial couldn't quite pull off. The waist and hip articulation got reworked so the legs can push up further and the torso actually twists with authority, and it shows the second you start posing it. The shield splits into eleven bit staves that plug onto the arms, shoulders, and backpack, so you are not just holding a shield, you are rebuilding the whole silhouette between poses. Snapping those pieces around the frame is the most fun I have had with an HG shield gimmick in a while, and the sword and Gambit Rifle combos give the kit real range on the shelf.
The catch
The ankles are the one joint that lags behind the rest of the redesign, they hold basic stances fine but get wobbly the moment you push a dynamic pose, so plant the feet before you commit to anything dramatic. Stickers are lighter than older HGs, mostly limited to the shield's blue and white accents, but the permet panel etching means you can skip several of them and the kit still reads clean. Build time runs three to five hours, which is longer than a typical HG because of all the small bit stave connections, so budget an evening rather than a quick lunch build. Nothing here is a dealbreaker, but the ankle looseness is worth knowing before you pose it mid-air.
Who it's for
Grab this one if you want a main-character Gundam that looks and moves like it belongs on a shelf next to your Master Grades, or if you are getting back into the hobby and want proof that HG kits have genuinely gotten better. It also works as a gateway kit for someone who has never built Gunpla before, the gate placement is friendly and nothing here demands advanced tools. Skip it only if you already own the original 2022 HG Aerial and are not chasing the improved articulation or the bit stave shield, since the core silhouette is the same suit. Everyone else, this is worth the shelf space.
The build story
What the build is actually like, and the engineering worth knowing about.
The plastic on this HGTWFM line is soft and easy to clip clean, and I did not fight a single stubborn nub across the whole build. Where it takes longer than a normal HG is the shield, each of the eleven bit staves is its own small assembly that has to seat correctly before it will peg onto the arms or backpack, so I slowed down and worked in batches rather than rushing it.
The engineering payoff is in the torso and legs. The abdomen joint has noticeably more amplitude than the original Aerial, and the hip armor was slimmed down specifically so the legs can kick up higher, which means kneeling and wide stances actually look natural instead of stiff. Shoulders swing wide enough for real weapon poses, and between the beam saber, rifle, and reconfigurable bit staves you have more loadout variety than most HGs offer at this price point.
Lore & trivia
- 01The Aerial's shield is built from GUND-Bits, a remote weapon system that is designed around defense and interception rather than offense, which mirrors Suletta's role as a protector rather than an aggressor in the story.
- 02The suit was designed by Ippei Gyoubu, who also designed Gundam Kimaris and Gundam Bael for Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans.
- 03This Rebuild kit reworks the hip and abdominal articulation specifically because the original 2022 HG Aerial's leg lift and torso twist were considered limited, making Rebuild a corrective re-release rather than a simple recolor.
