This is one of the more inventive P-Bandai spinoffs of the Wing Gundam Fenice line, and it earns that reputation.
It reuses a big chunk of the original HG Wing Gundam Fenice frame, then piles on custom ground-combat parts, a beam rapier, a split buster rifle, and the Meteor Hopper support bike, all in one box. The asymmetric face, mismatched eye colors, and battle-worn head sculpt give it more personality than most HG variant releases manage. It is not a clean, precision-engineered kit, but it is a genuinely fun one.
Best for: Wing Gundam fans and Build Fighters completionists who want an unusual ground-attack variant with a transforming bike accessory
What it is
The Fenice Liberta is the ground combat sibling to the Fenice Rinascita, both riffing on the original HG Wing Gundam Fenice used by Ricardo Fellini in Gundam Build Fighters: GM's Counterattack. It ships with roughly a dozen runners, reusing most of the base Wing Gundam Fenice frame while adding new sprues for the beam mantle shoulder piece, the split buster rifle with its secondary gun barrel, a beam rapier, and the Meteor Hopper, a motorcycle-support craft that can extend its binders into a flight-capable MA mode. Building it feels like assembling two kits' worth of character for the price of one HG, and the asymmetric head with its scarred plate and mismatched camera eyes gives it more presence on a shelf than a straight reissue ever could.
The catch
This is a Premium Bandai exclusive, so it costs more and is harder to source than a mainline HG, and being a niche variant it leans on the original Fenice frame rather than offering all-new engineering. Builders have flagged real fit issues too, most notably a handle grip that sits loose in the hand and tends to pop free rather than clicking in snugly, a sign the tooling on this run was not as precision-fit as Bandai's better HGs. The buster rifle's mounting scheme also asks you to split the weapon and slot the halves under the forearms rather than giving it a clean holstered pose, which some builders find fiddly to arrange convincingly.
Who it's for
Grab this if you already like the Wing Gundam Fenice design and want the more aggressive, ground-focused half of the pair, especially if the Meteor Hopper's bike-to-MA transformation appeals to you as a display option. It also makes sense for anyone building out the Build Fighters GM's Counterattack roster, since Ricardo Fellini's suits are otherwise thin on the ground in plastic form. Skip it if you want a fuss-free build or are new to gunpla and would rather start with a mainline HG that has tighter, more forgiving part tolerances; the loose handle and multi-piece weapon mounting are exactly the kind of friction a first kit should avoid.
The build story
What the build is actually like, and the engineering worth knowing about.
Runner count is unusually high for an HG, since it carries over most of the original Wing Gundam Fenice sprues and then adds dedicated new runners for every custom part unique to the Liberta. That means more clipping and cleanup time than a typical single-suit HG, but the payoff is a kit that visibly earns its variant status instead of just reshuffling a couple of parts.
Color separation benefits from molded plastic on the new Liberta-specific parts, so the beam mantle, rapier, and Meteor Hopper panels don't lean heavily on stickers for their look. Articulation inherits the Wing Gundam Fenice's range, which is solid for an HG of this era, though the loose handle grip is the one weak point builders consistently call out. The Meteor Hopper is the standout value piece, giving you a second display mode (motorcycle and MA form) in the same box as the mobile suit itself.
