Zaku High Mobility Surface Type (Sanho)
A P-Bandai jungle Zaku that trades a new mold for a genuinely clever old one, done up in camouflage.

This is a shared-mold P-Bandai exclusive dressed up as Sanho's machine, and I think it earns its spot on the shelf anyway.
The Southern Cross Corps mono-eye Zaku frame underneath is more articulate than its price tag suggests, and the brown camo scheme actually reads as distinct rather than reused. It is not a kit to chase for engineering novelty since it is the same body as the Wald, Egba, and Danan releases, but as a piece of the Cucuruz Doan's Island roster it is a satisfying, characterful build.
Best for: Doan's Island fans building out the Southern Cross Corps squad who don't mind a P-Bandai hunt
What it is
This is the Sanho colorway of Bandai's HG Zaku High Mobility Surface Type, the ground-combat Zaku variant flown by the Southern Cross Corps in Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan's Island. It comes with a hover-optimized waist and leg silhouette, a Zaku machine gun, and a thermal dagger, and the brown camouflage pattern is handled with molded color plus water-transfer decals rather than a painted-on scheme. Building it feels like meeting an old friend in new clothes. The frame is the same one Bandai used for the Wald and Egba versions, and it holds up: this is a mono-eye Zaku with real thought put into how it swings its hips and knees.
The catch
It was a Bandai Hobby Online Shop exclusive, so getting one new means paying P-Bandai markup and shipping, or hunting secondary market listings well above the original roughly 2,750 to 2,970 yen sticker. The camo decals are water-transfer, which means more setup and drying time than a sticker sheet and a real risk of silvering or tearing if you rush them. And because this is a repaint and re-decal of an existing mold shared across four Southern Cross pilots, if you already own Wald's or Egba's version you are mostly paying for a new color scheme and a slightly different weapon loadout, not a new kit experience.
Who it's for
Buy this if you are building the Cucuruz Doan's Island cast and want Sanho specifically, or if you like mono-eye Zaku kits with more articulation than a standard HG grunt suit and don't mind decal work. Skip it if you already have one of the sibling releases and are shopping for something mechanically new, or if secondary market prices have pushed it well past kit-plus-shipping territory. As a first Zaku or a shelf piece next to Doan's own kit, it does its job well and looks the part standing in formation.
The build story
What the build is actually like, and the engineering worth knowing about.
The build itself is a straightforward HG experience, snap-fit with the usual light nub cleanup, and the camo-colored plastic means the visible seams and gate marks are more forgiving than they'd be on a solid dark green Zaku. The water-transfer decals for the pattern work are the part that actually takes time, since they need to be soaked, slid into place, and given time to set before you move on, and rushing them is the easiest way to end up with silvering or a torn edge.
Where the kit earns its keep is the frame. The mono-eye can be nudged left or right from a switch underneath the head, the head itself sits on a ball joint with a c-clip pivot for tilt, and the shoulders plus two-thirds of the torso blocks can swing forward for extra reach. Combined with double-jointed knees that pull up for extra bend and a hip axis built for forward swing, this Zaku kneels, lunges, and holds a low stance far better than its price band usually delivers. The machine gun and thermal dagger round it out as a complete surface-combat loadout rather than a bare-bones weapon set.
Lore & trivia
- 01The MS-06GD Zaku High Mobility (Surface Type) belongs to the Southern Cross Corps, the brown-camouflaged ground unit featured in the 2022 film Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan's Island, and each pilot's machine got its own HG release under the Bandai Hobby Online Shop.
- 02Sanho's unit shares its base loadout of Zaku machine gun and thermal dagger with the standard-issue Southern Cross Corps kit, distinguishing it from squadmates like Danan (heat hawk throwing tactics) and Wald (anti-ship sniper rifle).
- 03The camouflage pattern is achieved through a combination of molded plastic color and water-transfer decals rather than paint, a technique Bandai used across the whole Southern Cross Corps HG line to keep the kits weathering-accurate out of the box.
