The verdict

This is Leila Malcal's Alexander Type-02, one of three pilot-customized units built on the same Type-02 chassis introduced after the Battle of St Petersburg in Akito the Exiled.

Leila is a more prominent character than her squadmates thanks to her later role in the wider Code Geass story, which gives this kit a bit more standalone pull than the others in the trio, but the underlying kit is still the same simple 1/35 snap format the whole Mechanic Collection line uses.

Best for: Leila Malcal fans and Akito the Exiled collectors who want her Alexander specifically, or Wyvern Squad completionists building the full trio

The full review

What it is

Released in 2013, this kit reproduces Leila's Type-02 variant of the Alexander with her specific pilot colors and loadout details on the shared Type-02 tooling. Box contents are plastic sprue and a decal sheet, no inner frame or polycaps, matching the rest of this snap-together Bandai character line. Leila Malcal has a bigger footprint in Code Geass overall than her fellow Wyvern Squad pilots, which makes this particular pilot custom a slightly more recognizable pickup even outside the Akito the Exiled OVA specifically.

The catch

This kit shares its base tooling with the Akito Custom and the Ayano and Ryo Type-02 versions, so if you already own one of the others, this will read as a recolor with a few different accessory parts rather than a fresh build experience. It is a simple 1/35 snap kit, not Gunpla-tier engineering, so articulation and part complexity are both modest. As with the rest of this niche 2013 sub-line, verified hands-on build reports are hard to find online, so treat fit and cleanup as general to the Type-02 family rather than specifically confirmed for this release.

Who it's for

Worth picking up if Leila is a character you specifically want on the shelf, or if you are assembling the complete Wyvern Squad trio alongside Ayano and Ryo. If your interest in Code Geass kits is more general, the Lancelot or Guren releases in this same Mechanic Collection line will get you a more iconic silhouette and arguably more bang for the build than a pilot-specific recolor of a secondary unit.

The build story

What the build is actually like, and the engineering worth knowing about.

Box contents are plastic sprue and a decal sheet, no polycaps noted, keeping assembly quick and low-tool in line with the rest of the Alexander Type-02 family.

Because the kit reuses the Type-02 base with new parts rather than fresh tooling, expect a build experience close to the Akito Custom and sibling kits, with the distinguishing details concentrated in Leila's specific colors and equipment.

Lore & trivia

  • 01Leila Malcal is one of three new Wyvern Squad pilots who receive Alexander Type-02 Knightmares after the Battle of St Petersburg in Code Geass: Akito the Exiled.
  • 02The Type-02 chassis trims the original Alexander's twin-rifle loadout down to a single WAW-04 Judgement rifle plus equipment personalized to each pilot.
  • 03Leila Malcal goes on to play a larger role in the broader Code Geass continuity beyond the Akito the Exiled side story, which is part of why her specific Knightmare has more standalone recognition than her squadmates' units.
