The verdict

Ryo Sayama's Alexander Type-02 rounds out the Wyvern Squad trio alongside the Ayano and Leila versions, all three built on the same Type-02 tooling introduced after the Battle of St Petersburg in Akito the Exiled.

Taken alone it is a fine, simple snap kit of a secondary character's machine, but its real appeal is completing the matched set rather than standing out on its own.

Best for: Wyvern Squad completionists building the full trio, or dedicated Akito the Exiled fans tracking down every pilot's Knightmare

The full review

What it is

Released in 2013, this kit gives you Ryo's specific pilot colors and equipment on the shared Alexander Type-02 chassis. Box contents are plastic sprue and a decal sheet, no polycaps and no inner frame, the same lightweight snap format as the rest of Bandai's 1/35 Mechanic Collection line for this franchise. If you already have the Akito Custom or either sibling Type-02 kit, the core shape here will be immediately familiar, with the distinguishing details in Ryo's loadout and finish.

The catch

This kit shares its base tooling with three other releases in this catalog, so bought in isolation it can feel closer to a recolor than a distinct build. It is a simple snap kit rather than a Gunpla-tier release, with modest articulation and part complexity throughout. Ryo is also a less prominent character than Leila within the broader Code Geass story, which limits this kit's appeal outside of Wyvern Squad completionists specifically, and as with its siblings, documented hands-on build reports are scarce online.

Who it's for

Buy this if you are completing the Wyvern Squad trio or specifically want Ryo's machine represented. If you are a more casual Code Geass builder looking for a single standout Knightmare, the Lancelot or Guren kits in this same line will give you a more recognizable, higher-impact result for the same simple build format.

The build story

What the build is actually like, and the engineering worth knowing about.

Box contents are plastic sprue and a decal sheet, keeping assembly quick and low-tool in line with the rest of the Alexander Type-02 family.

As new parts on the existing Type-02 tooling rather than a fresh mold, the build experience should closely track the Akito Custom and sibling kits, with the differences concentrated in Ryo's specific colors and small equipment details.

Lore & trivia

  • 01Ryo Sayama is one of three new Wyvern Squad pilots who receive Alexander Type-02 Knightmares after the Battle of St Petersburg in Code Geass: Akito the Exiled.
  • 02The Type-02 chassis trims the original Alexander's twin-rifle loadout to a single WAW-04 Judgement rifle plus equipment personalized to each pilot.
  • 03After further combat data was gathered from their performance, Ryo's Type-02 and his squadmates' units were later upgraded into the improved Alexander Valiant.
