The Guren Mk-II, known in Japan as Ni-Shiki, is Kallen Kozuki's Knightmare and arguably the single most recognizable non-Britannian design in Code Geass, so this is the strongest pickup in the Mechanic Collection line if you only want one Code Geass kit.
It is still a simple 1/35 snap kit with no inner frame, but the character and silhouette carry it further than the rest of the lineup.
Best for: Code Geass fans who want Kallen's Guren specifically, or anyone building a starter collection who only wants one kit from this line
What it is
Originally released in 2008, this kit reproduces the Guren Mk-II's distinctive red and orange color scheme and its signature oversized silver right hand, the arm that houses the Radiant Wave Surger. Box contents run to a plastic sprue set, a decal sheet, and a vinyl part, a step up from the plainest kits in this line and appropriate for a design with a genuinely unique silhouette. The proportions come through clearly once assembled, the mismatched red body against that stark silver claw hand is instantly recognizable even at this simple engineering level.
The catch
This is a Mechanic Collection snap kit, not Gunpla, so there is no inner frame, articulation is modest, and detail comes largely from molded shape and the decal sheet rather than fine surface engineering. The Guren Mk-II's signature move, the right hand extending outward at the elbow for a surprise grab attack, is a design feature of the character rather than a posable function this kit replicates. As with the rest of this older line, dedicated hands-on build reports are thin online, so cleanup and fit expectations are best treated as general to the format rather than confirmed specifics for this exact release.
Who it's for
This is the easy recommendation if you want exactly one Code Geass kit on your shelf, Kallen's Guren is the design most people associate with the franchise outside of Lancelot itself. It also makes a good centerpiece if you are building out the wider Mechanic Collection lineup alongside the Lancelot and Alexander kits. Skip it only if you specifically want the later, more mechanically ambitious Guren SEITEN redesign, that is a different, newer kit entirely, not this one.
The build story
What the build is actually like, and the engineering worth knowing about.
Box contents are plastic sprue, a decal sheet, and a vinyl part, no polycaps, keeping this a quick, low-tool snap build rather than a complex multi-stage assembly.
The kit's strength is nailing Kallen's Guren at a glance, the color-blocked red body, the stark silver right hand, and the general proportions all read correctly once built, even without fine panel detail or posable fingers on that signature hand.
Lore & trivia
- 01The Guren Mk-II, known as Ni-Shiki (弐式) in Japan, was designed by engineer Rakshata Chawla and built at the Kyoto House, making it one of the only non-Britannian-derived Knightmare Frames in the series.
- 02Its signature weapon, the Radiant Wave Surger, is housed in its oversized silver right hand and can fry an enemy Knightmare's electronics on contact, a scene that became one of the show's most memorable combat moments.
- 03Kallen Kozuki is the Guren Mk-II's sole pilot, and the unit is developed from the earlier prototype Guren Type-01 before itself becoming the basis for later flight-enabled and SEITEN-era Guren variants.
