This is a genuinely fun expansion if you already own the base MG F90, and a confusing purchase if you do not.

The PLUNGE gear, wing shields, shoulder beam cannon, and the waverider conversion give the F90 a completely different silhouette and a real gimmick to play with. But it lives or dies on the fact that it is not a standalone kit, it is Premium Bandai exclusive gear built around a body you have to already have on your shelf.

The P-Type is one of roughly two dozen mission packs Bandai designed for the modular MG F90, and this one covers atmospheric reentry duty under the PLUNGE name. You get a new nose piece, wing shields for the arms, a shoulder-mounted vulcan and beam cannon, a rear tank unit, and leg boosters, all of which clip onto the base F90 body you need to already own. The transformation into waverider mode is the reason to buy this specific pack over the others. Snapping the wings forward and folding the legs back into a flight silhouette is the kind of gimmick that makes a shelf kit feel like a toy again, and I found myself doing the conversion more than once just for the fun of it.

The catch

Color separation is the honest weak point here. There is no molded red plastic anywhere in the pack, so the trim you see in box art comes from the included water slide decals or your own paint, not the runners. Builders who have gone through the wider mission pack line report simplified construction with more visible seam lines and nub marks than the base MG kits get, since these packs are secondary products, not flagship releases.
