This is a weapon pack pretending to be a full kit, and once I accepted that framing it won a lot of goodwill from me.
You do not get a Strike Gundam body in the box, you get the Lightning Striker backpack, the composite pods, the battery tank, the Armor Schneider, and the big 70-31 electromagnetic cannon that splits into two arm-mounted halves. If you already own the MG Aile Strike Gundam Ver.RM, this is a genuinely satisfying way to reinvent that kit's silhouette without buying a whole new Strike.
Best for: Ver.RM Strike owners who want a sniper loadout and don't mind a P-Bandai hunt and no MS body in the box
What it is
The Lightning Striker pack exists to turn a Strike Gundam you already own into Mu La Flaga's long range sniping configuration, and Bandai clearly designed it around that Ver.RM frame rather than as a standalone toy. Clipping the composite pods onto the shoulders, running the cable from the rear battery tank to the electromagnetic cannon, and locking the cannon into its two-handed firing grip is the whole appeal of the set, and it delivers. The cannon itself is the star, a big rail gun that splits into two stowable forearm blades when you are not sniping with it, and that transformation is more clever in hand than it sounds on a spec sheet. Building it feels less like assembling a robot and more like kitting one out for a mission.
The catch
The catch is right there on the box and on Amazon's own listing title: MS body not included. If you do not already own the Aile Strike Gundam Ver.RM, this kit does nothing for you, and P-Bandai exclusives like this one routinely go in and out of stock and get scalped afterward, so tracking down a copy at a fair price takes patience. Builders also flag that the composite pods and cannon add real weight to the shoulders and forearms, which stresses joints that were never over-engineered on the Ver.RM frame to begin with, so the wing-droop and skirt-pop issues that kit is already known for get a little worse once this pack is loaded on. The metallic yellow sticker detailing on the striker pack is nice but is still a sticker, not molded color.
Who it's for
Buy this if you already have the MG Aile Strike Gundam Ver.RM on your shelf and want a second, meaner display configuration without buying a second Strike Gundam outright, or if you specifically love the Mu La Flaga sniper loadout from SEED MSV. Skip it if you do not own that base kit, since there is no MS body here to build around, and skip it if P-Bandai hunting and secondary market prices are not something you want to deal with. For anyone who does have the base kit, this is one of the better ways to get a genuinely different silhouette out of it.
The build story
What the build is actually like, and the engineering worth knowing about.
There is no frame or main body to assemble here, so the build is short and almost entirely accessory-focused: composite pods, the rear battery tank, the Armor Schneider, and the cannon halves. Gate placement on the smaller striker parts is clean enough that cleanup is quick, and the metallic yellow accents come as a water-transfer style sticker set rather than molded color, which looks good fresh but is a maintenance point over time the same way any decal is.
The engineering payoff is entirely in the cannon. It separates into two halves that store flush against the forearms when not deployed, then reassembles into a single two-handed rail gun with a cable running to the rear-mounted battery tank, and that connect-and-fire sequence is the most fun part of owning this set. Double-jointed elbows and knees and a 360-degree waist on the underlying Ver.RM frame mean the sniper pose this kit is built for actually holds once you get there.
Lore & trivia
- 01The Lightning Strike Gundam is a SEED MSV (Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Master Special Vaccine) side-story variant built around Mu La Flaga's need for long-range firepower during the war.
- 02Its 70-31 type electromagnetic cannon splits into two halves that stow on the forearms, then combines into one rail cannon for firing, mirroring the mobile suit's in-universe design of a weapon meant to hide in plain sight until needed.
- 03This kit was released in August 2021 as a Bandai Premium (P-Bandai) exclusive, sold as a striker pack expansion for the existing MG Aile Strike Gundam Ver.RM rather than as a standalone Strike Gundam kit.
