This is a genuinely satisfying big kit that trades some articulation and polish for scale and price.
I built it expecting a lesser cousin of the Sazabi Ver.Ka and came away impressed with how much suit you get here, the funnel pod shields alone make it worth the shelf space. The catch is the legs are stiffer than I wanted and the funnel effect parts do not clip on with any confidence, so this is a kit you display more than you dynamically pose.
Best for: UC fans who want a big, funnel-armed Neo Zeon suit without Ver.Ka money or Ver.Ka fussiness
What it is
The RE/100 line exists to give you MG-adjacent scale and detail without MG part counts, and the Jagd Doga is a great example of why that idea works. It is a hefty 1/100 kit built around Gyunei Guss's psycho-frame machine from Char's Counterattack, with molded color doing almost all the work on the red and blue-green scheme, I barely touched a paint brush and it still reads correctly on the shelf. The two funnel pod shields on the shoulders are the reason to buy this kit. They open up wide, the six funnels sit inside looking properly mechanical, and the whole silhouette has that dense, cluttered Neo Zeon menace the anime design calls for.
The catch
The frame under the outer armor is functional rather than expressive. Poly-cap joints in the legs are tight enough that dynamic action poses on a stand are a struggle, and more than one builder has called the stance basically stiff once the skirt armor is on. The included funnel effect parts (the beam trails meant to sit off the shoulder rods) are a genuine miss, the rod diameter runs slightly narrower than the effect part socket, so they do not stay seated without some tape or a drop of glue. Budget for cleanup too, gate placement on the bigger panels leaves marks in visible spots.
Who it's for
Buy this if you want a big Neo Zeon suit on your shelf and care more about scale and color separation than a full range of dynamic poses, or if the Ver.Ka Sazabi price tag is what has kept you out of this era of UC kits. Skip it if pose versatility is your main criteria, an MG in this scale range will flex and hold a stance more convincingly. For straight display value relative to price, though, this is one of the better big-suit buys in the RE/100 catalog.
The build story
What the build is actually like, and the engineering worth knowing about.
Assembly moves fast for a kit this size since RE/100 avoids full inner-frame complexity, most of the build is snapping together shell armor over a simplified skeleton, so expect an evening or two rather than a weekend grind. Nub placement is mostly reasonable but a few of the larger red panels put gates on visible curved surfaces, plan on sanding and a panel line wash to hide the seams.
The standout engineering is entirely in the shoulders. Both funnel pod shields swing open on hinges to reveal the six stored funnels, and the clear plastic runner Bandai used for parts of the arm lets the tunnel gimmick actually read once assembled. Color separation elsewhere is strong for a kit this price band, the head, torso vents, and skirt armor all come molded in their proper colors. Articulation is the soft spot, shoulders and arms move well enough to hold the beam weapon and shield, but hips and knees are limited and the whole lower body resists holding an aggressive stance.
Lore & trivia
- 01The Jagd Doga is built off the mass-produced AMS-119 Geara Doga frame, upgraded with a Newtype-use psycho-frame cockpit for Neo Zeon's elite pilots.
- 02Unlike earlier funnel-equipped Gundam suits, the Jagd Doga's six funnels cannot recharge once expended, a deliberate limitation in the show's design.
- 03This RE/100 release arrived in 2018 to mark the 30th anniversary of Char's Counterattack, and it was priced to size up to the flagship Sazabi Ver.Ka at roughly half the cost.
- 04Gyunei Guss's own unit, distinguished by its blue-green and yellow color accents and head antenna, was flown against Quess Paraya's matching Jagd Doga in the film's tragic Newtype duel.
