The verdict

This is the same excellent RG 00 Gundam Seven Sword engineering wearing a color scheme that suits the suit better than the original release ever did.

I built it expecting a simple recolor and came away liking it more than the standard version, the orange and off-white plastic reads as a completely different kit on the shelf. The articulation and the sheer volume of hardware you get to rack onto its back are still the main event. It is not perfect, the sword mounts are genuinely loose, but the kit underneath the color swap is one of RG's better mid-line efforts.

Best for: RG builders who already know the Seven Sword mold and want the inspection colorway, or 00V fans chasing the Setsuna-piloted variant in a small footprint

The full review

What it is

This is a P-Bandai exclusive recolor of the RG GN-0000/7S 00 Gundam Seven Sword, reissued as the Seven Sword/G Inspection with a deep orange and pearl white color scheme plus a clear-molded GN Sword II Blaster. Under the new plastic it is the same inner-frame RG chassis that made the original Seven Sword a fan favorite, a fully articulated frame under real armor panels with the AEU/Union-era RG engineering that still holds up years later. Building it, I kept forgetting I was looking at a 1/144 kit, the proportions read closer to an MG on the shelf, and the color separation from molded plastic alone (no stickers needed for the main body) is what sold me on it before I even touched the weapons.

The catch

The sword loadout is the kit's weak point. Builders consistently flag that the tabs holding the swords to the shoulder racks and side skirts have no locking mechanism, so blades slide or drop off when you pose the kit with a full loadout equipped. The GN Sword II sits particularly loose on the side armor. There is also a choking-hazard warning on the small connector and joint parts, typical for RG scale, and you will want tweezers on hand. Because this is a P-Bandai exclusive recolor rather than a fresh mold, it runs at a premium over a standard RG and can be hard to find at retail once a run sells out, so budget for aftermarket pricing if you are late to it.

Who it's for

This is a good pickup for anyone who already appreciates the RG Seven Sword's articulation and wants the Inspection colorway on the shelf next to (or instead of) the original, and for 00V readers who specifically want the Setsuna-era GN Condenser variant rather than the GN Drive original. It is not the kit to start with if you are new to RG scale, the tiny sword tabs and frame assembly reward patience you build over a few easier RG kits first. If all you want is one 00 Gundam and don't care which colorway, the standard-release Seven Sword is cheaper and easier to find, save the Inspection version for when you specifically want this scheme or the full collection.

The build story

What the build is actually like, and the engineering worth knowing about.

Assembly follows standard RG logic, an inner frame goes together first and then armor panels click over it runner by runner. Gate placement is mostly on the inside of parts so cleanup is forgiving, though the frame's small ball joints and connector pegs need care not to stress-white them on removal. The molded orange and pearl white plastic means most of the body needs zero paint to read correctly, which is a real relief at this scale where sticker reliance usually drags a kit down.

The standout here is articulation carried over from the base RG Seven Sword, a 360-degree waist, double-jointed elbows and knees, and hip joints that swing and rotate independently give it a real fighting stance rather than the stiff RG-scale poses you brace for. Weapon variety is the other selling point, seven swords plus the clear-cast GN Sword II Blaster let you build out a genuinely intimidating loadout, even if you have to babysit a couple of the shoulder mounts once everything is equipped.

Lore & trivia

  • 01The 00 Gundam Seven Sword/G is an upgraded rebuild of the original Seven Sword using salvaged 00 Gundam parts after its duel with the Reborns Gundam, and it swaps the original's twin GN Drives for a single massive GN Condenser as its power source.
  • 02It debuted in the side-story manga Mobile Suit Gundam 00V: Battlefield Record, piloted by Setsuna F. Seiei, rather than in the main Gundam 00 television series.
  • 03This RG release was a Bandai Hobby Online Shop (P-Bandai) exclusive recolor of the standard RG GN-0000/7S 00 Gundam Seven Sword, released in December 2017 with the Inspection color scheme and a clear-molded GN Sword II Blaster not included on the original release.
  • 04The kit can mount onto standard Action Base display stands via an included adapter, and the GN Buster Sword II can be displayed separately on its own stand in either sword or rifle configuration.
