Banshee Norn Kits: RG and PG Compared

Banshee Norn is one of those suits that photographs beautifully and builds even better, because so much of what makes it special is mechanical rather than just painted on. The green or gold psycho-frame lighting up through clear armor when Destroy Mode locks into place is the whole appeal, and both grades on offer here chase that effect in very different ways.

I've broken this down into four kits, the PG and RG each in their standard gold-frame release and their Final Battle Ver. green-frame release. If you already know RG versus PG, this is about picking the right frame color and the right level of commitment. If you don't, I'd start with the grade primer linked at the bottom before you drop money on either.

My angle here isn't just badge value. It's which kit actually rewards the hours you put into it, and which one is the smarter buy if this is your only Unicorn-line kit for a while.

  1. RX-0(N) Unicorn Gundam 02 Banshee Norn [Final Battle Ver.]1

    1. RX-0(N) Unicorn Gundam 02 Banshee Norn [Final Battle Ver.]

This is the PG at its most theatrical. Same 1/60 frame as the standard Banshee release, but the psycho-frame pieces mold in green clear plastic instead of gold, which changes the whole Destroy Mode reveal if you spring for the LED unit. The transformation gimmick is identical to the base PG, which means the same clearance-heavy inner frame that makes this a genuinely advanced build, not a first Perfect Grade. If you're going to commit a week of bench time to one Banshee, I'd spend it here.

  2. RX-0(N) Unicorn Gundam 02 Banshee Norn2

    2. RX-0(N) Unicorn Gundam 02 Banshee Norn

The original PG release and still the fuller package if green frame doesn't matter to you. Full transformation between Unicorn and Destroy Mode, the Armed Armor DE, and a Beam Magnum with a revolving launcher and effect parts that the RG simply can't match in scale. The gold psycho-frame is the color most people picture when they think of this suit. Go in expecting a demanding build with a lot of small linked pieces, and it pays off with the most complete Banshee on a shelf.

  3. RX-0[N] Unicorn Gundam 02 Banshee Norn [Final Battle Ver.]3

    3. RX-0[N] Unicorn Gundam 02 Banshee Norn [Final Battle Ver.]

The green-frame RG gives you most of what makes the PG Final Battle version fun at a fraction of the build time and cost. Color separation on the armor is dense for 1/144, the transformation is simple and secure since it shares the RG Unicorn's inner frame, and articulation holds up well for the grade. It won't glow the way the PG can with the LED accessory, so the green frame reads mostly through the clear armor panels rather than true internal lighting. Still my pick if you want the Final Battle look without the PG commitment.

  4. RX-0[N] Unicorn Gundam 02 Banshee Norn4

    4. RX-0[N] Unicorn Gundam 02 Banshee Norn

The standard RG earns its reputation as one of the kits that turned the RG line around. The Armed Armor DE and grenade launcher give it more in the box than the RG Unicorn it's built from, the transformation is quick, and the panel line detail across Destroy Mode holds up without paint. I have it last only because between four very good kits, something has to be the value pick rather than the showpiece. As a first Banshee or a gateway into the line, this is the one I'd hand someone.

The short version

The PG Final Battle Ver. is the best-looking Banshee on a shelf, the standard RG is the smartest way to get a great Banshee build without the PG's time investment.

Common questions

What's actually different between the base Banshee Norn and the Final Battle Ver.?

The molds are the same in both RG and PG. The only change is the psycho-frame color, gold on the standard release versus green on the Final Battle Ver., reproduced in clear plastic so it reads differently under light or with the LED unit on the PG.

Is the PG Banshee Norn a good first Perfect Grade kit?

I wouldn't start here. The inner frame has tight clearances built around the transformation and LED compatibility, and builders consistently flag it as one of the more advanced PG kits rather than a gentle introduction to the grade.

Does the RG Banshee Norn light up like the PG does?

Not with an official internal LED unit. The green Final Battle Ver. RG uses clear frame parts for a lit look under normal lighting, but the true LED gimmick is a PG-only accessory built for that larger frame.
