Char's flagship reborn in white, deep blue, and wave-pattern foil, still a bear to pose but still a beast on the shelf.

The verdict

The MG Sazabi Ver.Ka has been a big-suit benchmark since 2007, and this Collection Ver.

reskins it in a white and dark blue water theme with metallic wave decals instead of touching the engineering underneath. I like that honesty. It means you get the same sliding chest panels, pop-open leg thrusters, and huge shoulder-mounted funnel binders that made the original a legend, wrapped in a color scheme I have not seen on any other Sazabi release. If you already know the Ver.Ka's quirks, this is a fresh coat on a kit that still earns its size.

Best for: Ver.Ka fans and Sazabi collectors who want a genuinely different color variant, not first-time MG builders looking for a modern, tight-fitting kit

The full review

What it is

This is the 2007 MG Sazabi Ver.Ka molded in a China-exclusive water element colorway, white and dark blue plastic with new wave-pattern waterslide decals standing in for the usual red and gold Sazabi look. Under the new colors it is the same ambitious kit it always was: sliding armor panels open to reveal a mechanical inner shoulder, the leg thrusters pop open on hinges, and the beam tomahawk has real heft and detail. Building it still feels like assembling a small monument. The shoulder binders swing and rotate through a genuinely wide range, and the head takes an aftermarket LED unit for the mono-eye, which is a nice payoff once everything is together.

The catch

The engineering is nearly two decades old and it shows. Builders consistently report the shoulder armor and binder joints loosening over time, sometimes needing glue or tape to stay put, and the ankle and knee movement gets choked by the skirt and leg armor once you try deep poses. This release leans hard on decals, dozens of small wave-pattern foil pieces that are fussier to place cleanly than a normal sticker sheet, so budget real patience for that stage. It is also a China-exclusive variant, meaning secondary market pricing and availability are less predictable than a standard retail Bandai release.

Who it's for

Buy this if you already love the Sazabi silhouette and want it in a colorway nobody else on your shelf has, or if you collect Ver.Ka variants specifically. Skip it if you want a first MG with tight modern tolerances and easy posing, the frame here is looser and fussier than anything Bandai is molding today. For a first big Zeon flagship I would point someone at a newer MG instead and save this one for after they know what they are getting into.

The build story

What the build is actually like, and the engineering worth knowing about.

Assembly is glue-free and the outer frame gates cleanly on most parts, so nub cleanup is manageable for a kit this size, but the beam tomahawk and smaller weapon parts have more annoying nub placement than the rest of the kit. The build itself takes real time simply because of scale and part count, this is an afternoon project, not a lunch-break one.

The standout engineering is the sliding shoulder and chest panels that expose an inner mechanical layer on top of a normal MG inner frame, plus leg thruster hatches that pop open on hinges. All five fingers articulate on each hand, and the head accepts an aftermarket LED unit for the mono-eye. The tradeoff for all that spectacle is looser tolerances at the shoulder and hip than a modern MG, so the design has always rewarded patient posing over rough handling.
