Super Deformed

Grade line · typically Non-scale · 2023 to 2026

Chibi-proportioned, big-headed, and cheap. Fast, fun builds with loads of character and almost no glue-free frustration.

This hub also gathers the MGSD line, its closest relative in the range.

Super Deformed is the fun house of Gunpla. The suits are squashed into a big-headed, stubby-limbed chibi shape, and the kits are cheap, fast, and full of personality. An SD is the build I reach for when I want a win in under an hour, or something a kid can put together without getting frustrated.

Do not mistake cheap for crude. The modern SD sub-lines have come a long way, with better articulation and cleaner color separation than the wobbly figures the format started with, and they take paint and marker detailing just as well as their full-size siblings. They also make superb testing grounds for a new technique you do not want to try on an expensive kit first.

This hub also gathers MGSD, the Master Grade Super Deformed line, which is a different animal entirely: a chibi silhouette wrapped around genuine Master Grade internal engineering. If you love the SD look but want a deeper build, that is where to go.
