The verdict

I came away impressed with how much this kit is trying to do, and mostly forgiving of the two spots where that ambition costs it stability.

Built on the excellent HGCE Infinite Justice frame, it goes together tight and confident everywhere except the shoulder mounts and heel joints, which are deliberately loose to let the whole thing transform through Mobile Suit, King, High-Speed Cruising, and Assault Combat modes. If you want a display piece that changes shape and comes loaded with hardware, this earns its shelf space. If you just want one pose that stays put without babysitting, it will occasionally test your patience.

Best for: Build Divers fans and transformation junkies who want a shield-knight Gundam that changes shape more than it needs to reposition

The full review

What it is

The Aegis Knight is Kazami Torimachi's signature build in Gundam Build Divers Re:RISE, a knight-themed reimagining of the GAT-X303 Aegis Gundam from Mobile Suit Gundam SEED. It inherits the polycap-free, rock-solid HGCE Infinite Justice frame, so the core engineering underneath all the extra gimmicks is genuinely good. Out of the box it looks sharp, with a foil-sticker crest, a chunky lance, a beam saber, and a shield big enough to double as a weapon mount. Popping it into King Mode by unfolding the rear crest and clipping on the crystal chest piece is a small, satisfying ritual every time, and it is the kind of kit that rewards spending an evening just running through its transformation states instead of racing to finish the build.

The catch

The shoulder ball joints and the heel joints are noticeably loose, a tradeoff Bandai made to let the suit fold through its transformation states, and both pop off with minimal contact once you start posing it. It is a strange contrast against a frame that is otherwise tight and confident, and if you handle the kit a lot you will be reseating a shoulder more than you would like. There are also small parts and connector pins tied to the mode-swapping gimmick that need care during cleanup, since they carry more mechanical stress than a standard HG joint. None of this ruins the kit, but it means this is not a "build once and never think about it again" HG.

Who it's for

This is a strong pick if you are chasing the Build Divers Re:RISE roster, want a shield-focused knight variant of the Aegis Gundam, or just like HG kits that do more than stand and pose. The accessory pool and mode changes give it a lot more staying power on a shelf than a typical single-mode HG. Skip it if a rock-solid, fuss-free pose is your top priority, since the loose shoulder and heel joints will annoy you every time you handle it. If you want the tightest version of this frame with fewer gimmicks to manage, the related Justice Knight kit is the safer bet.

The build story

What the build is actually like, and the engineering worth knowing about.

The build itself moves fast and feels confident for most of the kit, since it is riding on the same frame architecture as the well-regarded HGCE Infinite Justice. Gate placement is standard HG fare and cleanup is painless outside of the smaller connector pieces tied to the transformation gimmick, which reward a bit more patience so you do not stress the tabs.

Where it stands out is the sheer number of things it can do: full head, torso, and shoulder articulation that holds up in most poses, a shield that combines with the lance into the Keraunos Hyper Beam Sword for King Mode, and three additional configurations beyond the base Mobile Suit mode. For an HG at this price point, that is a lot of engineering and a lot of accessory value, even with the shoulder and heel looseness dragging down what would otherwise be a top-tier articulation story.
