The verdict

This is a repaint, not a redesign, and that is exactly why it works.

The original HGUC Sinanju from 2010 already proved this mold could hold a dramatic silhouette at 1/144 without falling apart, and Ver. GSF just puts a rarer, richer color scheme on top of that proven frame. If you already own the red version you know what you are getting. If you don't, this is a legitimate way in.

Best for: Sinanju fans and UC collectors who want the blue Gundam Base Fukuoka colorway without hunting down the pricier MG

The full review

What it is

I went into this expecting a simple recolor and that is basically what it is, but it is a good one. The Sinanju's whole design language, the huge shoulder wings, the trailing waist armor, the sharp beak-like head, translates well to HG scale, and the deep blue plus gold trim of the GSF colorway actually reads better under normal light than I expected from photos. Molded color does most of the work here rather than paint, and the parts snap together with the same confidence the base HGUC kit was known for. It feels like a kit that was designed by people who understood the character's proportions mattered more than raw part count.

The catch

The leg articulation is the kit's weak point. The hip and knee range is noticeably more limited than the arms, so dynamic ground poses take some coaxing and the suit is happiest in more upright stances or with the flight-heavy poses the character actually uses in fiction. There are foil stickers for some of the finer gold and panel details rather than everything being molded color, so careful application matters if you want a clean look. And because this is a Gundam Base Fukuoka exclusive, it was never meant to be an easy pickup, expect to pay a premium over a standard-release HGUC if you find one after the fact.

Who it's for

Buy this if you already like the Sinanju's design and want the blue GSF scheme specifically, or if you collect Gundam Base exclusives and want a mobile suit that actually stands out on the shelf next to the more common red release. Skip it if leg-heavy dynamic posing is your priority, the MG Sinanju handles that much better, or if you just want the character in any colorway, since the standard red HGUC is easier to find and usually cheaper. For most casual builders picking between the two, the color is a matter of taste, not build quality.

The build story

What the build is actually like, and the engineering worth knowing about.

The build follows the same runner layout as the original HGUC Sinanju, so assembly is straightforward with parts that click together firmly rather than needing constant test-fitting. Gate placement is reasonable on the main body and limbs, though the trailing waist armor and shoulder wings have enough small connector parts that patience helps during that stage.

The best engineering payoff is how well the suit balances its oversized backpack and shoulder armor without becoming top-heavy on the shelf, a real achievement for a kit this size at 1/144. Arm and shoulder articulation is generous and the beam weapon and shield accessories give enough posing variety, even if the legs don't keep pace with the upper body's range of motion.

Lore & trivia

  • 01The Sinanju is Full Frontal's personal mobile suit in Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn, built by modifying a stolen MSN-06S Sinanju Stein technology demonstrator that Anaheim Electronics developed for the Earth Federation's RX-0 program.
  • 02Its red color scheme was chosen deliberately to evoke Char Aznable, since Full Frontal is presented as a possible clone or reincarnation of the original Red Comet.
  • 03The Ver. GSF colorway takes its name from Gundam Scramble in Fukuoka, an event where this blue variant was first shown off alongside a matching blue Neo Zeong, before returning as a Gundam Base Fukuoka anniversary exclusive in November 2024.
