The verdict

This kit earns its price by being generous rather than flashy.

You are not buying a dramatically different mobile suit, you are buying the base GNY-001 Astraea plus a genuinely huge pile of extra hardware, two head options for Type F and Type F2, and enough gear to fill a shelf on its own. If you already like the Astraea's silhouette, this is the version to own. If you just want one clean Gundam with no fuss, this is not your first kit.

Best for: MG builders who already like the Astraea line and want the loaded weapons variant with both Type F and F2 heads

The full review

What it is

This is the Full Weapon Set release of the GNY-001F Astraea Type F, a P-Bandai exclusive that bundles the mobile suit with essentially its entire 00F/00I arsenal in one box. Building it feels less like assembling one Gundam and more like assembling a small armory that happens to come with a pilot's ride. I liked that the frame underneath is the familiar, well-proven Astraea inner structure, so the actual suit goes together in a way that already feels tested and solid, while the fun part is unpacking sprue after sprue of proto GN sword, proto GN launcher, GN hammer, GN beam rifle, GN shield, and the NGN bazooka. Swapping between the Type F and Type F2 head sculpts at the end is a genuinely nice touch of customization for one kit.

The catch

The obvious catch is price and availability. As a P-Bandai exclusive it runs well above a standard MG (around 76 USD at retail), and being make-to-order means you catch it during a release window or hunt it secondhand. It also leans on waterslide decals rather than a deep printed or molded color scheme for some of the weapon details, so colour separation on the accessories takes more manual work than the suit itself. Because so much of the box is weapons, the actual Gundam assembly is comparatively short, this is a kit built around its loadout, not around a long, involved suit build.

Who it's for

Buy this if you already have or want the Astraea and would rather own the fully loaded version in one purchase instead of chasing separate weapon expansions later. It also makes sense for anyone who wants a two-in-one build, since the head swap lets you display either the Type F or Type F2 look without buying two kits. Skip it if you want a simple, focused build, are on a tight budget, or don't specifically care about the 00F/00I side-story Gundams, the base HG or a mainline UC kit will serve you better as a first or casual build.

The build story

What the build is actually like, and the engineering worth knowing about.

The suit assembly moves fast because the Astraea frame is a known quantity, double jointed elbows and knees, a single ball jointed neck, and a 360 degree waist rotation give it a reliable range of motion before you even reach the weapons. Most of the real build time goes into the arsenal, and there is a lot of it, so budget more sessions than a standard MG just for the accessories alone.

The standout here is the sheer part count dedicated to gear rather than the suit itself, six distinct weapon systems plus a shield give this figure genuine shelf presence once fully loaded out, and the head swap between Type F and Type F2 means you get two display options without a second purchase. Articulation on the suit holds poses well even under the added weight of the larger weapons.

Lore & trivia

  • 01The Astraea Type F is an upgraded version of the original GNY-001 Gundam Astraea, transferred to the Fereshte support team and rearmed for the Mobile Suit Gundam 00F and Gundam 00I side stories.
  • 02Like the original Astraea, the Type F served Celestial Being as a testbed for new hardware being developed for the frontline Gundams of the main 00 series.
  • 03This Full Weapon Set release includes two separate head parts so builders can display either the Type F or the upgraded Type F2 configuration from the same box.
